Bilingüe desde nacimiento Acaba de nacer un periódico bilingüe que enlaza el

trabajo de dos centros de primaria de dos países

diferentes.

En este mes de febrero de 2012 el periódico

GuadalTyne ha

lanzado su primer ejemplar a través del

cual espera dar a

conocer las actividades que se realizan en el

centro de primaria The

Compass School (Haddington – Escocia) y el CEIP

Guadalquivir (Sanlúcar de Bda – España). Esta actividad no quiere sino ser un motivo de trabajo y de

enlace que ayude a los dos centros a conocerse mejor y

apoyar el aprendizaje de las lenguas extranjeras.

Bilingual since birth. A bilingual newspaper is born to link the work of

two primary schools in different countries. In February 2012 the newspaper GudalTyne has

launched its first issue. The main objective of this

activity is to let others know about the different

activities which take place at The Compass School

(Haddington – Scotland) and CEIP Guadalquivir

(Sanlucar de

Barrameda – Spain).

This activity shows

our wish to link our

schools and to work

together so we can

know each other better

and develop the

learning of foreign

languages.

Deseamos que nuestros amigos del

norte estén cada vez más cerca Queridos miembros de la comunidad educativa del

CEIP Guadalquivir y también, cómo no, de nuestro centro hermano The Compass School en Escocia.

Desde aquí os quiero dar mi más sincera enhorabuena

por el lanzamiento de este primer número del periódico GuadalTyne, que no tiene otro objetivo que el de unir

más a los dos centros en nuestro

deseo de trabajar juntos. Desde el

sur, deseamos que nuestros amigos del norte estén cada vez más cerca

y nuestros lazos se vayan creando y

estrechando poco a poco. Por esto mismo apoyo está iniciativa y

espero que la comunidad educativa

se vuelque en la realización y el desarrolla de próximos

números del recién nacido periódico.

We really want to feel nearer to our friends

from the north. Dear members of our CEIP Guadalquivir School

Comunity and of course of our twin centre The

Compass School in Scotland. From here I just want to

congratulate us both on the launch of the first issue of

GuadalTyne, the main aim of which is to help to bring

both schools closer. From the south we would really

like to feel our friends from the north nearer to us and

we sincerely wish our links grow deeper. I strongly

support this initiative and also expect the cooperation

of the school comunity with the development of future

issues of our newly created newspaper.

Greetings from Scotland I would like to send best wishes to

our friends in Sanlucar from all of us

We are coming to the end of a busy

term and the last few weeks have been full of Christmas fun and

festivities. The beginning of

December saw all of our children from Form 4 to Form 8 perform in a very special

concert for the National Trust Of Scotland in the Town

House in Haddington. The concert was called ‘A

Christmas Cracker’ and it was full of music, fun and surprises!

Next, we all headed to the theatre to see a special

Christmas show called a pantomime and Snr Hidalgo joined in with the rest of the audience calling out and

singing songs, as we enjoyed the story of ‘Aladdin’.

Sr. Hidalgo also gave a wonderful presentation about

Christmas in Spain to all of the School, at our morning

assembly, and we learned many things about Spanish customs and traditions.

We then had a wonderful whole school party, with

delicious party food cooked by Mrs Buchanan and her

kitchen staff, followed by everyone taking part in a ceilidh – a special party with lots of traditional Scottish

dances.

In our final week of term, the whole school community came together for our end of term Carol Service in St

Mary’s Church – a beautiful church in the centre of

Haddington – where the children sang songs, performed a nativity play and sent everyone off into the holidays

full of the spirit of Christmas! We send festive greetings

to our friends in Spain and hope you all have had a very

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Saludos desde Escocia Quiero mandar mis mejores deseos a nuestros amigos

de Sanlúcar desde The Compass School en

Haddington, Escocia.

El primer trimestre ha sido un muy ajetreado y las

últimas semanas han estado llenas de diversión y

celebraciones propias de las fechas navideñas. A

principios de diciembre nuestros alumnos (desde

segundo hasta sexto) actuaron en un concierto para la

entidad Nacional Trust of Scotland en el

ayuntamiento de Haddington. El concierto se llamó

“A Christmas Cracker” y estuvo lleno de música,

diversión y sorpresas.

Lo siguiente fue cuando todo el colegio fuimos a ver

la tradicional “Pantomine”. D. Rafa se unió al resto

del público espetando a los actores y cantando

canciones, todos los pasamos muy bien con la historia

de Aladín.

D. Rafa también nos preparó una maravillosa

presentación en powerpoint sobre las navidades en

España y aprendimos mucho sobre las costumbres y

las tradiciones españolas en Navidad.

Más tarde tuvimos toda la escuela celebró una gran

fiesta, con la deliciosa comida de nuestra cocinera la

Sra. Buchanan y sus ayudantes de cocina, a lo que

siguió el ceilidh, un gran baile de danzas tradicionales

escocesas

Durante la última semana del trimestre, toda la

comunidad educativa se dirigió a la iglesia de Santa

María, una preciosa iglesia en el centro de

Haddington, para el Concierto de Navidad, donde los

niños y niñas de cantaron canciones y villancicos y

actuaron en una obra navideña. Después todos se

fueron de vacaciones cargados de espíritu navideños.

Enviamos desde aquí saludos muy cariñosos a

nuestros amigos en España y esperamos que hayan

tenido unas muy felices navidades y un próspero 2012.

Robin Making for Hall Display

We have been designing Robins for the Christmas

display in the hall. We cut out different shapes such as circles and semi-circles

to represent parts of its body. Our Robins are very

effective and we have been developing our fine motor skills by completing this activity.

Hemos estado haciendo Colibríes para exponerlos en

el Salón de usos múltiples. Cortamos las diferentes

figuras, círculos y semicírculos para representar las

partes de su cuerpo. Nuestros colibríes son muy

resultones y hacerlos nos ha ayudado a desarrollar

nuestras habilidades motoras finas.

Our First Term in Form 2 Form 2 visited a Dentist to learn how we should all take

care of our teeth.

Daisy’s Dad came to tell us about his job as a Doctor. When we visited the Fire Station, we all had a chance to

hold the hose. It was very exciting.

Los alumnos de Infantil de 5 años visitaron la

consulta de un dentista para aprender a cuidar su

dentadura.

El padre de Daisy nos explicó en que consiste su

trabajo como médico.

Cuando visitamos el parque de bomberos, todos

tuvimos la oportunidad de coger la manguera, fue

muy emocionante.

Form 3 in Action Form 3 have had a very busy start to the year and have

enjoyed many new learning experiences. We have enjoyed going to Games and playing hockey, visiting

The National Museum of Scotland, weighing and

measuring in maths as well as consolidating our number

work and mental arithmetic. We are enjoying making

kites and are going to be evaluating these by flying

them and note taking. We have developed our literacy

skills within reading, writing, talking and listening through delivering presentations on Thailand and

currently getting ready for our Christmas Nativity

where we have lots of words to learn!

La clase de primero ha tenido un comienzo muy

atareado del año nuevo y hemos aprendido mucho con

todo lo que hemos hecho. Lo pasamos muy bien en

clase de Educación Física jugando a jockey, también

visitamos el Museo Nacional de Escocia; pesando y

midiendo en Matemáticas y con el cálculo mental.

Ha sido genial construir cometas, echarlas a volar y

anotar porqué y cómo se produce el vuelo. También

hemos mejorado en nuestra lectura, escritura así

como hablando y escuchando cuando preparamos una

presentación en PowerPoint sobre Tailandia.

Terminamos nuestro trimestre memorizando bastante

texto para nuestra representación navideña.

Form 4 calling! Rachel and Katie enjoy a drama workshop on the topic

of “Life in a Castle.”

How much do I need to buy this?

We have just enjoyed our cake and candy sale. Too

much sugar!!

Form 5’s electricity project – Morse

code! Form 5’s project this term is electricity. We have been

learning how to communicate using Morse Code. The

children had to send a simple message to their partner by making ‘dots and dashes’ with the lightbulb – they

were not allowed to talk!

Form 6 Art and Design We have been looking at the art work of Scottish Artists

this term and have been inspired by them to recreate

their artwork using a range of media The first artist we looked at was Jean Hall whose work we produced by

using a range of papers to create a collage picture.

Hemos estado echando un vistazo al trabajo de

distintos artistas escoceses y nos hemos inspirado en

ellos para hacer nuestros trabajos usando diferentes

recursos. La primera artista que estuvimos estudiando

fue Jean Hall. Nuestro trabajo consistió en usar

distintos tipos de papel para hacer un collage.

This still life work was inspired by the Scottish

colourist Samuel Peploe who worked in oils. For our pictures we used oil pastels to recreate the bright

colours of his work.

Para el trabajo del bodegón nos inspiramos en el

colorista escocés Samuel Peploe, que trabajaba con

óleo. Utilizamos pasteles de óleo para recrear los tan

coloridos de su trabajo. Our final piece of work is based on the painting

‘Reverend Walker skating on Duddingston Loch’

By Sir Henry Raeburn. This is a very famous Scottish

painting. We used chalk pastels to create the background and then added a photograph of ourselves

dressed up to look like

Reverend Walker.

Nuestro último trabajo se basó

en la pintura “El Reverendo

Duddingston” de Sir Henry

Raeburn. Es un cuadro muy

famoso en Escocia. Utilizamos

pasteles a la tiza para hacer el

fondo y después añadimos una

fotografía nuestra vestido como

si fuéramos el Reverendo Walter.

Form 7 - New Lanark A few weeks ago Form 7 went to visit New Lanark to

find out about life in Victorian times. New Lanark was founded in 1786 by David Dale, who built cotton mills

and housing for the mill workers. Dale built the mills

there to take advantage of the water power provided by the river Clyde.

The children were taken on a tour of the village by a guide and saw how people lived and worked in those

times. They saw different types of homes, the village

shop and the school buildings as well as the mills where they still spin wool today

They also took part in a workshop where they dressed

up as Victorian school children and had a variety of

lessons. They thought the teachers were much stricter than theirs!

As part of the trip the children discovered how the

Victorians celebrated Christmas. They went on a ride called The Spirit of Christmas which they all enjoyed.

Hace unas cuantas semanas los alumnos de quinto

fueron a visitar New Lanark para averiguar como era

el tipo de vida en la época victoriana. New Lanark fue

fundada en 1786 por David Dale, que construyó

molinos de algodón y casas para los trabajadores de

molinos. Dale levantó allí los molinos para

aprovechar la fuerza de las aguas del río Clyde.

Los niños realizaron una visita guiada por la aldea y

vieron cómo vivía y trabajaba la gente en aquellos

tiempos. Vieron diferentes tipos de casas, la tienda y

los edificios de la escuela así como los molinos que

hasta el momento presente están trabajando.

También participaron en un taller y se disfrazaron

como alumnos de la época victoriana y tuvieron

distintas clases. Se dieron cuenta que los profesores

eran mucho más estrictos que los suyos.

Como parte del viaje describieron cómo los victorianos

celebraban la navidad. Se subieron en una atracción

que disfrutaron mucho, llamada El Espíritu de la

Navidad.

¡Que viva Méjico! Hi there! We are Form 8, the oldest students at The

Compass School. As you can see by the pictures we

have been working on Mexico during our first term.

Now we know a lot about this country, where by the

way Spanish is spoken too. We invited everyone at school to come to our class for tasting Mexican food

and listening to Mexican music amongst other things.

We also went out for Mexican dinner in a restaurant in Edinburgh. We had a great time there.

¡Hola! Somos los de sexto, los mayores del colegio.

Como podéis ver en las fotos hemos estado trabajando

sobre Méjico durante el primer trimestre. Ahora

sabemos mucho sobre este país, en el que por cierto

también se habla español. Hemos invitado a todo el

mundo en el cole a que se pase por nuestra clase y

saboreamos comida mejicana y escuchamos su música

entre otras cosas. También fuimos a cenar a un

restaurante mejicano que hay en Edimburgo. Lo

pasamos muy bien allí.

¡Todos contra la Violencia de

Género! El pasado 25 de Noviembre, los alumnos/as del CEIP

GUADALQUIVIR desarrollaron diferentes actividades

para unirse a la protesta y lucha contra la violencia de género. Todos los alumnos participaron en esta

manifestación de apoyo a la mujer desde diferentes

frentes. Los niños/as de infantil y primer ciclo de

primaria dibujaron y colorearon dibujos amables. Los alumnos de 2º y 3er ciclo de primaria escribieron

en tiras de papel de colores, mensajes de apoyo y en

defensa de la mujer. Después, estas tiras (mensaje) de papel, sirvieron para vestir a unas siluetas de mujer

dibujadas sobre papel continuo y puestas en los paneles,

en el porche del colegio.

On 25th November, the students from Guadalquivir

School took part in different activities to join the

protests against domestic violence. They all

participated in a demonstration by developing a great

range of actions. Pre-primary and Forms 3 & 4 drew

and coloured some amazing pictures. The rest of the

primary students wrote messages on strips of paper

that were later used to dress a hand drawn shape of a

woman. When finished, it was displayed at the

entrance of the school.

La Fiesta del otoño Los alumnos/as más pequeños del colegio, celebraron su fiesta del otoño, degustando las frutas típicas de estas

fechas. También contaron, como cada año, con la

presencia de un castañero, que durante unas horas asó

castañas hasta saciar el apetito de tan voraces

comensales.

The youngest children of the school celebrated the

Autumn Party. They tasted typical, seasonal dried

fruits. A chestnut roaster came to the school as he

usually does every year, and for a few hours he fed the

hungry mouths.

¡Teatro, but in English! El miércoles 30 de noviembre, los alumnos/as de

segundo ciclo de primaria (3º y 4º), asistieron a Lebrija

a la representación de la obra de teatro Shakespeare Mouse .La representación fue bilingüe y los niños/as,

tuvieron la oportunidad de comprobar sus

conocimientos de Inglés. Charlie Rex les acompañó en

este desplazamiento, estuvo muy atento a lo que se representaba en el escenario. Se divirtió mucho en el

autobús y en el parque al que fueron después de la

representación teatral.

Forms 5 and 6 went to a Shakespeare play called

“Mouse”, at a theatre in Lebrija, about 30 kms from

Sanlúcar. It was a bilingual play, so the students had

the opportunity of testing their knowledge of English.

Charlie Rex joined them; he was paying a lot of

attention to what was happening on the stage. They all

had fun on the bus and also in a park after the

theatre.

Reforestando el bosque

También el miércoles 30 de noviembre, los alumnos de

5º curso, se desplazaron hasta La Algaida para realizar actividades de reforestación.

Se da el caso de que los árboles que plantaron nuestros

alumnos, los habían cuidado ellos mismos en macetas hasta que han estado listos para ser trasplantados en una

zona forestal.

On the same day, Form 7 took part in some eco-

activities in La Algaida (closest forest to the school).

They went to plant some trees in the forest. All the

trees that were planted were previously nurtured by

the students, before they went to the forest.

Ni más ni menos que tres escuelas

bilingües. El viernes día 2 de diciembre, los alumnos/as de 6º curso de primaria, asistieron a otro centro bilingüe de la

localidad para celebrar una jornada intercentros. Allí se

reunieron los alumnos/as de 6º de los tres centros bilingües de Sanlúcar, realizando talleres preparados

por las auxiliares de conversación. Los niños/as se

dividieron en 12 grupos según los meses del año. Cada

grupo estaba formado por alumnos de los tres colegios. La primera parte consistió en la aplicación de un

cuestionario para facilitar que se conocieran. La

segunda parte consistió en el visionado de la película de

Charlie Chaplin “The Kid”. Después de ver la película,

tuvo lugar un cineforum preparado por las auxiliares, que permitió que los alumnos/as se expresaran en inglés

y hablaran sobre la película. Charlie Rex estuvo muy

atento a todo lo que sucedía a su alrededor. Una vez

finalizado el encuentro, los alumnos/as de los tres colegios bajaron al patio para hacerse unas fotos que

inmortalizaran el momento.

In Sanlúcar there are 3

bilingual primary schools.

On December 2nd

, Form 8

students from the different

schools gathered together

to work. All the English

assistants, from the

different schools, designed

different workshops.

Students were split into 12

groups, one for each

month of the year. In each

group there were students

from each of the different schools. During the first

part they completed a questionaire to help them get to

know each other better. During the second part they

all watched the Charlie Chaplin film “The Kid”. After

the film a Cine-forum, prepared by the English

assistants, took place. The children had the chance of

sharing ideas about the film in English. Charlie Rex

was also listening to all the comments. At the end of

the day all the students went to the playground to take

some pictures of each other.

Mercadillo Navideño, la hora de la

solidaridad. Dentro de las actividades previas a la Navidad, la

A.M.P.A del centro ha colaborado activamente en la preparación y celebración del “Christmas Market”,

actividad destinada a recaudar fondos para contribuir a

que las familias más desfavorecidas de Sanlúcar puedan celebrar estas fiestas sin que nada falte en sus mesas. Si

bien es cierto que algunas de las familias de nuestro

centro no pasan por su mejor momento, no lo es menos

la solidaridad con la que se han volcado en esta

actividad, con la que se han recaudado cerca de 1700€.

Every year we organise our Christmas Market and

families are especially involved in this activity. The

main object of this event is to raise money to help poor

people in Sanlucar, so they can have a better

Christmas. Having said that, some of the families in

our school are suffering economic difficulties,

however they were still there helping and working for

other people. The amount we raised was 1,700€

Celebrando la Navidad

Para terminar el primer trimestre, se celebró el

“Christmas Concert”, el 22 de diciembre, en el que todos los alumnos del centro participaron. Fue un

completo éxito y la mayoría de los padres acudieron a

ver a sus hijos actuar.

Our last term activity was The Christmas Concert, on

December 22nd

, in which all the children in school

took part. It was a complete success and most of the

parents came along to see their children singing or

acting.

Los Reyes Magos ¡Por fin! Como broche final de estas celebraciones navideñas,

S.S.M.M. Los Reyes Magos, tuvieron la deferencia

ddesviarse de su camino hacia Belén y visitar nuestro centro donde los niños y niñas los esperaban con

ilusión. Visitaron a todos los cursos y todos los

niños/as fueron obsequiados con caramelos y

bombones. Besides that, The Three Wise Men diverted

on their way towards Bethelem and visited our school

where many happy boys and girls were waiting for

them. They visited every single class and all the

children were given chocolates and sweet.
