Criterio de convergenciaPara determinar si la sucesión x0, x1, x2, ... esta convergiendo odivergiendo a una raíz x , cuyo valor se desconoce, puede calcularseen el proceso iterativo la sucesión f (x0), f (x1), f (x2), ... si dichasucesión tiende a cero, el proceso converge a x , y dicho proceso secontinuará hasta que |f (xi)| < ε1. Si f (x0), f (x1), f (x2), ... no tiende acero, la sucesión x0, x1, x2, ... diverge a x y el proceso deberádetenerse y elegir un nuevo g(x).

La sucesión x0, x1, x2, ... diverge.Se detiene el proceso porque f (x0), f (x1), f (x2), ..., no tiende acero. Luego se inicia un nuevo proceso con x0 = π

TeoremaSi g ∈ C[a,b] y g(x) ∈ [a,b], ∀x ∈ [a,b] entonces g tiene un puntofijo en [a,b]. Si además, g′(x) existe en (a,b) y |g′(x)| < k < 1,∀x ∈ (a,b) entonces g tiene un punto fijo único en [a,b].
