    Texto 2

The Personnel Director of Rossomon explains the

structure and organization of the Personnel

De artment to a new member o the team.

Jan: As you know, my name is Janet Morgan but everybody calls me Jan. Inthis meeting Im going to explain the structure of the department. If you haveany questions, feel free to interrupt.

    Paul: Right. Fine.

Jan: As you can see on this chart here, I head the department. Now, whatsinvolved in heading the department? Well, I act as a spokesperson for thedepartment in all our senior management discussions, as well as in policy-making meetings. I am also responsible for co-ordinating the work of the

personnel team. So, in brief, those are my two functions representing thePersonnel Department and co-ordinating its activities.

Now, moving on to the second level on the chart, as you can see, there arefour managers who report to me. Lets take them individually. First, there isour Recruitment and Selection Manager. Shes responsible for maintainingcontact within the community in order to look for manpower according to ourneeds. Next we have the Compensation and Benefits Manager. He handles thecompanys employee benefit programme primarily health insurance and

pension plans. Then we have the Training and Development Manager, whosin charge of skill training and management development. The post is currentlyvacant but we are, at the moment, advertising in the national press, so wehopeto find someone soon. By the way, training and development are both veryimportant for us here at Rossoman. Part of our policy here has been to offeropportunities for personal development. And, despitethe current recession, this will continue. And finally, theres our Employee Relations Manager. She deals with therelationship between management and employees and advises us, that is the

organization, on all aspects of union-management relations.

Paul: Oh, I have a question. You mentioned union-management relationsWhich unions are active here?

Jan: Good question! Let me answer that question when I finish presenting thethird level on the chart here. Each of these managers is supported by anindividual or a small team..
