Hi my name is Lucia Ayala, I am 16 years old and I was born in Anaheim, Ca. I attend to Salt Lake Center of Science Education. I feel truly blessed to be given the opportunity of being presented in the cover of this magazine. this experience has been un like any other surpassing any expectations I could have had. I am truly proud to be part of the cover girl family. I admit it was more then I expected I the beginning I was off to a rough start but with the help of the cover girl team I began to improve I grow closer to not only those who were instructing me but those who I would soon be competing against the instructor was unlike any other I have worked with before she knew exactly what to sa to me to recive the best results she gave me a new believe inn what I could achieve I used that new believe in myself to win the cover girl quinceañera completion it is true due to the fact that the instructor was so well that I became to believe that I wasn’t much of an obstacle for the others. Although I thought I wouldn’t be winning I was glad to be there knowing that even if I did not place I would be gaining this experience and improving myself . At a young age my father had past away everyday was a struggle but with the help of my mother, family and a couple friends I have become a better person that what had been expected. I thank them for their love and support. I would also like to thank the readers of cover girl for taking the time of reading what I have written. Mom I want to give you special thanks , I love you so much thank you for everything you have done with out you nothing that I have achieved would be possible . Lucy.

Studies show that people who graduate from high school earn a lot more money over their life time than those who do not. I wouldn’t even think of not completing school in today’s society. You hardly have a chance of making it. Quitting school early is like throwing more than $200,000 down the drain. And that is just to start. Instead, I encourage you to keep going. The next seven years of your life will determine the quality of life for the rest of your life. (And perhaps, your children’s life too).

First and for most we do not recommend a house party. Unfortunately because of the economy going the way it is many people are canceling ballrooms and throwing house parties. If this is your situation don’t be embarrassed be thankful that you have parents that are willing to celebrate you giving the circumstances. And although is not what you expected, enjoy the spot light cause after all it is your time to shine.Basic rules in having a house party.
Rule number one Always check with your neighbors, and maybe give them the option of attending. Checking with them will a sure you from having a police officer at your door step and shutting down your party.
Rule number two your house must be party ready. It could be possible that your house is in need of fresh paint in and outside. The reason why we recommend a paint job is so that your house feels welcoming and has a relaxed like atmosphere. After all nobody likes a dirty looking house.
Rule number three security. If you have a cute but fussy animal you better find a sitter for them, we would not want the animal to be jumping on guest especially if someone is afraid of them. Also make sure you safety proof your house. Ask your dad to be sure the house is secure for your guest you won’t want someone to be rushed to the hospital because you didn’t consider the possibilities.
Rule number four decoration. Don’t be afraid to be creative with the decorations, you could get inspiration almost anywhere. Visit a party supply store and look up some ideas. Remember ask for help let them know your having a house party and how big the area is, so that they can help you with chairs, tables, etc. Don’t pretend that your house is a big ballroom and buy more than you need. Always recall that simplicity and clean are always better than a mess of different decorations.
Rule number five food. Oh yeah my favorite part! Food could be complicated and messy when it comes to serving it. So instead of having someone serving the food have a buffet table its quick and easy for your guest.
Rule number six the dance floor. Making a dance floor is easy and affordable. You will need a clean backyard with grass or dirt, a big wooden platform and linoleum to make it smooth. This will help you keep your shoes and dress dirt and grass free.
Rule number seven lights. You must have light everywhere you wouldn’t want your guest tripping over things because they can’t see. Whether it is regular lighting or color lighting make sure there’s enough. Be creative when it comes to color lighting that’s what’s going to make the dance floor fun.
Rule number eight music. Music is an easy way to entertain your guest that is why you must always beware of the volume. Make sure you let the DJ know the level of volume you want the music to stay during the party, so that you won’t have any surprises after all.
Mis quince en mi casa(Celebrating at Home)
And lastly having your quince at home could be a great convenience, because after the party your aunts, uncles, and cousin could help put the house back together.

SPEECHLESS?
Help is here!
Perhaps one of the most difficult times for
a quinceanera is giving
a speech. A speech is
an important part of
your quince, because
everybody wants to listen
to you speak. Therefore
it’s important to be prepared so you won’t
let your nerves get the
best of you. If you have
stage fright or problems
speaking in front of large
crowds, well just develop
a short and sweet speech that both your
friends and family could
appreciate. So how can
you develop this speech
without the stress? Here’s some help to make your speech short,
sweet, and memorable.

Being a part modeling and talent industry for
close to 20 years I have attended my fair share
of fashion shows, as a model and as a client.
Recently, I was invited to attend a show of a
very talented fashion designer. Sitting in a front
row and watching models passing by I realized
that the same models over and over again
catch my attention and stood out throughout the
whole show. They all had different looks but
what I noticed about them was the fact that they
one thing in common – they oozed with self-
confidence. They had her shoulders back. They
had her chins up. They had a very confident
walk and it was so attractive and I thought “Isn’t
that interesting”. You don’t have to be gorgeous.
You don’t have to have the most expensive
clothes in the world. You don’t even have to
have great hair. It is attractive to project self-
confidence. That’s what models know, isn’t it?
They know you have to project self-confidence
on stage, on the runway, or in front of the
camera.
Getting ready for your Big Party means to get
ready to be the center of attention. Can you
handle it? Think of what virtues make up the
popular, successful girl: her poise, her posture,
her voice, her make-up, her clothes sense, the
way she moves, and that wonderful quality of
being natural, being herself as an individual;
the ability to say and do the right thing at the
right time, to have total confidence in herself.
All these qualities add up to the sum total of
success! When we see this girl, the one whom
everyone likes, the one who people are drawn
to, the one who seems to do everything right,
we are inclined to think that she’s just lucky, that
she was just born with so much, like the true
beauty. If you look again, carefully this time, you
will find that she is not the perfection you thought
her to be, but that she has learned to create that
illusion.
All these attributes are actually skills which
anyone can learn. No one is born with them, it
is a fact that all successful, professional models
have learned these skills; and so can you.

Tt’s all about you
If you are not a model, act like one. Specially in your big day. Now atdays being pretty
is not enough. You have to complement it with good manners, good talking skills, and an
overall image of a well rounded girl. We give you some tips on how to present yourself in
a complete package, so people can see the new señorita ready to debut in society. Can you handle so much attention in one day?
What are the qualities
that each confident person
projects? A confident person
knows how to:
Walk with poise
Maintain beautiful posture
Sit with grace
Give a confident hand shake
Be a good listener
Keep a great conversation
Dress with style
Always look “pulled together”
and well-groomed
Project self-confidence every day of your
life, whether it’s at a social gathering or at
school, no matter what the occasion is. Get
your shoulders back, stand up tall, walk
with determination. When you sit, don’t
spread your legs all over the place, sit up
nice and tall. When you shake hands, look
that person right in the eyes, reach out your
hand and shake in a nice firm grip that says,
“I feel good, how about you?” Dress as
though you’ve put some thought into your
clothes. Make sure your clothes are neat,
clean and pressed. Whether you’re talking
to somebody or just listening, pay attention.
Open your eyes, maintain eye contact, smi-
le, nod, show the person that you’re inter-
ested in what they have to say. Confidence
means how sure you are of yourself.

• Back in your mom’s days a girl was not supposed to wear
make up, use high heels, or dance in public?
• A quinceañera dress was always white?
• A quinceañera was a true transition in a girl’s life? This means, from that day
after they were allowed to have a boyfriend and to be seen in public with him...
Quinceañera
is a tradition in many Latin American countries. In Cuba, the girl has a
big photshoot in many locations... Inlcuding a bathing suit sesion... In
Puerto Rico is “Quinceañero” (No, is not a boy’s b-day)...

Listen up, girlfriend: you’re a handful!Spunky, sassy, and full of life, the Ram girlhas energy to burn and will certainly catcha few eyes along the way. That’s what youwant, right? You’ve also got an independentstreak and are a pioneer in many ways.It wouldn’t be uncommon fo r you to bepresident of your service club, a role whichsuits you well. At times, you can be a bithyper-focused on yoursel f - some days, what’s yours is yours, period. You wouldn’teven think to swap clothes with your bestfriend. Oh well. Dating for the Ram girl is no problem since you’re happy to do the asking out! Hey, that way you get to
make the call on the spot, right? Self-sufficient one that you are, you’re always ready to pay your
share if need be. When it comes time for the big school decision, big is the operat i ve wor d. You’ll totally groove on the big-school scene.
Once there, the daring you would lead an impassioned protest wearing
a miniskirt and chunky heels! Look out, world, the Ram girlis on her way.
That pretty girl surrounded by a bevy of beauties (both male and female) - yes, it’s you, Libra! You’re certainly not one to hang around alone. More to the point, though, you are very focused on looking good. As Libra is ruled by Venus, the Planet of Love, Beauty, and Aesthetic, your hair will always be in the latest style, and your fashionsense is as good as it gets. Many Libra girls
wind up in the fashion industry for this very reason. As for all of that company in your midst, it’s plain and simple - the
Libra girl can’t stand to be alone. If you’re not in a relationship (highly
unlikely), you’ll cling to your palsand always socialize with a crowd. And a happy group it will be, since you’ll insist on harmony at all costs. Some may perceive your willingness to please as superficial and hey, somedays, it may be just that, but your intentions are always good. Since Libra is an Air sign, you possess the qualities of an intellectual and will do well in school. Or
maybe it’s because you just can’t stand the thought of an argument
with the teacher! Whatever the case, you’re bound to wind up doing beautiful work.

The archer girl can always be counted on for a
good time. Believe me girlfriend, you are FUN!
You’re also energetic and will try just about
anything. Consider yourself the original explorer
chick.People love you and love being around you.
You certainly groove on their energy, which can
lead to a bit of a problem at times: you talk too
much! In the social whirl, you’re the funnest of pals,
happily sharing your clothes with the girls and
gabbing for hours.
The ideal first date for you would be (what else?)
an adventure! The boy who cooks up something
really unique will win your heart.
School will be on your terms, meaning that
you’re likely to excel at the one subject which
interests you most. When it comes to higher
learning, a semester abroad, even the whole
four years, would be heaven on earth!
Primping and posing in front of a mirror? Yep,that’s a Taurus girl! Hey, it is you, after all, who’sup on the latest fashions, so you may as welllook good in them. Taurus is ruled by Venus, theplanet of attraction and beauty, so this all makes“stellar” sense. When it comes to dating, you’re traditional andlove to be wined and dined. The boy who picksyou up in a nice car and takes you out for an expensive dinner will score a perfect 10! Nee-dless to say, your stash of cash (and a Taurus always has one) will be spent at the mall. The Bull girl can be a bit stubborn at times andcertainly holds a fixed opinion, but the flip sideof this is that you have a goal and are prettydetermined to achieve it. As a result, you’ll be agood student and will go places. Where,
exactly? Well, probably to the offices of a PR agency or a nice fancy mag (Quincea-ñera Magazine, are you listening??).If a sporting date is made, the Bull girl
will almost certainly suggest golf or tennis, the better to keepthat makeup in place. Hmmm,
and there are someawfully cute tennis dresses, too.
That cheeky and flirtatious girl in the middle of
the room? She’s bound to be a Gemini! You’re
smart and quick-witted and love having lots and
lots of friends. The better to keep you from
getting bored, right? The sociable you is also adept at talking on the
phone while sending e-mail, and each piece of
communication will be delightful and dazzling.
Face it, girl: chat rooms were made for you! As
much as you love to talk (and you’ve always
got the 411 on EVERYTHING), you are also on
top of your studies. Lucky for you, though, you
manage to pull straight A’s without even trying!
Well, sort of - networking with the
teacher mighthave something to do with it.
Back at school, you’re a natural
for the school paper, either as a
reporter or the resident gossip
columnist. Does this mean you’ll
wind up dating the editor? Well, if
he’s fun (and maybe even abit nerdy),
why not? With your personality, the pick of
the litter will surely be yours!

The Lion girl always looks good - “I mean, does anything else matter?” you mightsay. Not really, which is why your hair is always perfect, and you’re most definitely sporting the latest fashions. The only labels you wear are designer, which means it’ssomeone else who’ll be shopping at the Gap. That boy of yours had better know the best restaurants or he won’t be around for long. Therefore, rich boys only need apply. Hey, they can be nice too, right? They are also the ones most comfortable with your favorite pastimes, things like playing tennis, riding, and sailing. The ever-sociable you will always be the leader of the group, and the bigger the group, the better. That’s why big schools will be on your radar screen once it comes time to c hoose a univer-sity. You may be a handful, but you’redefinitely going places ! And get ting there will b e plenty of fun for the Leo girl.
Listen up, Capricorn girl: there’s more tolife than work! Yes, this is true, but you willhave a hard time believing it. You are bothstudious and hard-working, necessaryelements for someone as ambitious asyourself. Not only are you in the NationalHonor Society, you’re at the top ofthe heap! Your look is likely to be preppy, but you’ll spice it up a bit if it will help your agenda.Otherwise, it’s a traditional take on bothhair and clothes. The Capricorn girl is also a serious dater, someone who aims high and will spend her time with the one who will help tomake her a success. And you’re practicingfor these successes early on, sinceyou already love to be wined and dined! You’ll easily do well in school, since that’s
a good start on the road to becomingCEO. Ivy Leaguers beware: a new
girl is about to rule the roost, and she’s a Cap!
You, Pisces girl, are the best shoulderto cry on in the world. Compassionateand sympathetic, you’re always willingto assist a friend in need. Taking it a stepfurther, it’s not unlikely that you’ll makehelping others (and genuinely caringabout their welfare) your life’s work. For the Pisces girl, relationships are allabout the vibe between two people, andyou’re most in love with being in love.Your special guy won’t need to spenda lot of money to impress you, since it’sthe feeling you’re after. As for schooling and beyond, you’deasily get lost in a big school, so helpyourself by choosing a small (preferablyliberal arts) college.
A radical idea? Ha! Must be an Aquarian. “I’ll
try anything once!” you would exclaim, and in
fact it’s absolutely true. Not only are you unique,
you’re also a rebel, unafraid to take on society
on your terms. Your super-quick mind might lead
others to think that you’re all about ideas with no
feelings at all, but that’s only partially true.
You care deeply about the causes in which you
believe, it’s just that you don’t have a lot of time
for small talk. Fashion is also something better
left to someone else, since your style is of your
own making.
Your ideal date is someone who will take you
somewhere way, way out - perhaps to hear an
alternative band from Iceland or experimental
theater in the dark. Sappy movies? Not! The
independent streak in you also calls for a rela-
tionship which will give you your freedom.
When it comes to studying, an unstructured
environment will serve you best, as will an
alternative college when you get to that
next level. Are you for everyone?
Probably not, but then you
don’t want to be!
The Virgo girl is reserved, even a bit shy, and quiteinclined to spend much of her time fussing over thisand that. Oh, the woes of a perfectionist! The everorganized Virgo is also a neatnik who loves to make lists - even lists of lists. This meticulous disposition is what leads you to
work on your looks and to be forever fashion-forward. Your pickiness doesn’t stop here - you’re also choosy with your friends! Boys as well as girls. A good academic school is the one for you, and you’ll spend plenty of time researching the options in order to choose the (whatelse?) perfect one. A career as a nurse, accountant, programmer, or editor will suit you to a T.

VALS

NEGOTIATE EVERYTHING!And walk away with the best deals.
While steep discounts are unrealistic, there’s a good chance of getting a few extras thrown in. (Think an additional hour for your reception, or a champagne upgrade.) You just have to negotiate right. Here’s how.
Even if you’re working with the hottest vendor in town, there’s always room to negotiate, especially if there’s a good reason to reduce costs -- like having the quinceañera on a less-popular Friday night. Here are some more crucial pointers.
KNOW THE MARKETFind out what other vendors offer for the same price point, and use this as leverage. Ask about every single thing that’s included in your package. Then find out in advance what extras are going to cost -- and whether those costs can be waived.
STICK TO YOUR LIMITA vendor may be willing to cut you a deal as long as you agree to something additional -- for example, he might consent to give you an extra hour of shooting, but only if you have him take your engagement photos. What you

need to ask yourself is whether this will actually cost you more in the end.
ADOPT A FRIENDLY BUT FIRM DEMEANORThere’s no harm in politely asking for a deal. If vendors are excited to work with you, they may be more willing to come up with creative solutions.
BE INDIFFERENTYou need the vendor to believe that if he or she won’t meet your offer you will walk away. Consider collaborating with your fiance to employ the old good-cop-bad-cop routine.
