Second collection for Catholic Relief Services tobe taken on the weekend of March 5th and 6th,2016.
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,Soon, our diocese will be taking up the Catholic Re-lief Services collection. This collection funds sixCatholic agencies that work to serve Jesus in dis-
guise of our suffering brothers and sisters aroundthe world. These agencies provide a broad range ofservices, including advocating for immigrants, pro-viding humanitarian aid in the wake of natural disas-ters, resettling displaced individuals, and workingfor increased peace in our world. Your support ofthis collection is an opportunity to help Jesus in dis-guise.
In the late morning of April, 2015, a 7.8-magnitudeearthquake struck Nepal toppling buildings andhomes, causing widespread panic, and claiming
thousands of lives. At this time, aid is still being pro-vided by Catholic Relief Services. Shelter remainsan urgent priority, as many families still live underbasic tarps, tin sheeting or other materials, withminimal protection from the elements. Long-termrecovery efforts will likely focus on safe rebuilding, support so families can become resilient, and therestoration of markets and livelihoods. By joiningwith the Catholic community throughout the UnitedStates and donating to this special collection youwill provide the necessary means for CRS to con-tinue to care for our brothers and sisters in need.
Funds acquired from the CRS Collection are alsodistributed to Migration and Refugee Services,Catholic Legal Immigration Network, Inc., the De-partment of Justice, Peace, and Human Develop-ment and the Holy Father’s Relief Fund. The U.S.Catholic bishops are in full support and stand firmlybehind CRS in its commitment to promote and de-fend human dignity and the sacredness of everyhuman life from the moment of conception untilnatural death, and at every moment in between.
Please be generous in The Catholic Relief ServicesCollection. Your donations truly make a differencein the lives of others.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Most Reverend Joseph A. Pepe, D.D., J.C.D Bishopof Las Vegas
