The month of September was a busy and exciting time for our students and fami-lies! We had a wonderful turn out for Back to School Night, an exciting Rock Your School day on September 20, and our first Friday Morning Assembly with a guest

visit from Sweet Frog to celebrate Tyler Heights winning the Back to School Class-room Supplies contest!

During October we will be focusing on Tyler Heights Top 10 Rules and looking for students who display these positive behaviors. You can help us by asking your child

each week what rule is being highlighted.

As always, our focus is on attendance. Please work to have your child in school every school day. Remember: EVERY. DAY. COUNTS!

Early Dismissal School Policy

If there is a change in the dismissal routine for your child, you must send in a written note to the school stating the change.

Calling the school to give specific dismissal requests is not accepted.

If someone other than a parent will be picking up your child, you must send in a note indicating the name of the person. This is especially necessary if the per-son is not listed on your child’s emergency card. All adults need to bring an ID to enter the building.

Children will not be able to be picked up for early dismissal after 2:55PM.

¡El mes de septiembre fue un tiempo ocupado y emocionante para nuestros estudiantes y familias! ¡Tuvimos un maravilloso evento para el regreso al es-

cuela , un emocionante día de “Rock En Su Escuela” el 20 de septiembre y nuestra primera asamblea el viernes por la mañana con una visita de Sweet

Frog para celebrar el hecho de que Tyler Heights ganó el concurso de “ útiles para el regreso a la escuela!”

Cambio en la Rutina de Salida

Si hubiera cambio en la rutina de salida de sus hijos, deben mandar una nota a la escuela notificándonos del cambio por la mañana.

Ya NO se aceptarán llamadas a la escuela para hacer el cambio.

Si otra persona, que no sea padre del estudiante, va a recoger al estu-diante, los padres del estudiante deben mandar una nota con el nombre y numero de teléfono de esa persona. Especialmente si esa persona no esta en la lista de emergencia. Todo adulto debe traer una identificación para entrar al edificio.

Los niños NO podrán ser recogidos de la escuela entre las 2:55pm y las 3:25pm.

Kindergarten

Happy October! We have had an incredible

first month of Kindergarten! We are learning

the letters of the alphabet and finding

shapes in our school. Homework is starting

this month, your student will have a journal

sent home with them where they can com-

plete their homework. If you have any ques-

tions about this, feel free to send a Class Do-

jo message to your child's teacher.

First Grade

In first grade this month, we will be learning

about the Monarch Caterpillars life cycle.

We will also be reviewing routines and start-

ing our small group work in math and read-

ing. We appreciate you working with your

child on their daily homework.

Second Grade

The Second Grade Team are excited to begin

this school year with your child. We have been

practicing routines and procedures for the

classroom to ensure success in all areas of our

day. We have started sending home reading

and math homework so please make sure your

child completes it every night. We are looking

forward to getting to know you and your stu-

dent this school year! Thank you!

Forth Grade

Welcome back! Ms. Countiss, Ms. Davidson, and Mrs. Plan-

getis are all very excited to begin the new year with our fabu-

lous fourth graders. We have been working hard to establish

routines and procedures in our classroom. As we enter Octo-

ber, we will be moving into Addition and Subtraction using

the standard algorithm in math followed by Multiplication

and Division. In reading, we will be working on communi-

cating about the texts we read in order to find the themes,

visualizations, and points of view. In Science, we are prepar-

ing for our Field trip to Arlington Echo on October 22 by

learning about pollination. We are studying

world exploration in Social Studies, and writing a realistic

fiction story in Writing Workshop. If you have any questions

or concerns please do not hesitate to reach out to your

child's teacher!

Third Grade

Be on the look out for information regarding Middle School

Magnet Programs. There are a few information nights com-

ing up and we don't want you to miss out. You can find this

and other important papers in your child's Wednesday fold-

night and sign the sheet indicating that you have seen the

papers.

Kinder

¡Feliz octubre! ¡Hemos tenido un primer mes

increíble de Kindergarten! Estamos

aprendiendo las letras del alfabeto y buscan-

Cuarto grado

Bienvenido de nuevo! La Sra. Countiss, la Sra. Davidson y la

Sra. Plangetis están muy emocionadas de comenzar el nuevo

año con nuestros fabulosos estudiantes de cuarto grado.

Hemos estado trabajando duro para establecer rutinas y pro-

cedimientos en nuestra aula. Al entrar en octubre estaremos

entrando en suma y resta usando el algoritmo estándar en

matemáticas seguido de multiplicación y división. En lec-

tura, trabajaremos en la comunicación sobre los textos que

leemos para encontrar los temas, las visualizaciones y los

puntos de vista. En Science, nos estamos preparando para

nuestro viaje de campo a Arlington Echo el 22 de octubre al

aprender sobre la polinización. Estamos estudiando la ex-

Being the new school counselor here at Tyler Heights Elemen-

tary, I have had the pleasure to meet so many amazing students

and families within these first few weeks of school. I am so ex-

cited and looking forward to all the greatness this school year

will bring!

Please come out and join us at the Parent Information night at

Annapolis Elementary School on October 15, 2018 at 5:30pm.

There will be representatives there providing information and

assisting with the application process for the following pro-

grams; Performing/Visual Arts, AVID, International Baccalau-

reate Middle Years Program and the STEM program.

If you are unable to attend the October 15th date, there will be

other information sessions held throughout the months of Oc-

tober and November. Please see the attached fliers for all dates

Eagle families! The following is a list of few important things to remember during the

school year.

School Access and IDs

All parents and visitors must report to the office to be signed in by one of the secre-

taries. Be sure to bring your photo ID and wear your visitor’s badge the entire time

that you are in the building. If you are picking your child up early you must present

an ID when picking them up. Thank you for keeping our school and students safe!!

Arrival/Dismissal Procedures

Please keep in mind that student safety is our top priority. We ask that all parents

be patient and aware of their surroundings and the children moving about during

arrival and dismissal. Be sure to follow directions of staffers in the parking lots. If

you are walking with your child to school, please be sure to walk in the crosswalks.

In addition, remember that dogs are not allowed on school property during arrival

and dismissal. Dismissal is at 3:25 PM.

REMINDER! All walkers will be instructed to walk home at 3:25 PM if no one is

here at the time to meet them. Please meet walkers on the far side of the fence on

the side of the building. The student dismissal sequence is as follows: car riders,

bus riders, walkers. Please do not come to the front door to pick up your child. For

car riders, if you are not in your car, please wait on

the walkers side of the building.

Early Dismissal Procedure

If your child is a car rider or walker in the afternoon, please make sure necessary arrangements are made ahead of time for your student to be picked up on time at 1:25.

If your child is normally a walker and you decide to pick them up as a car rider, without informing the school, please park your car on Janwall Street and walk up to school to pick up your child. This helps us with the flow of the car rider line. Our cut-off time for early dismissal is 2:55 pm. If you need to pick your child up before normal dismissal, please do so before 2:55 pm.

If you send someone else to pick up from school, this person must be on the emergency card or a note should be sent to school that morning. This person should bring picture ID for the safety of our students.

Warm Winter Clothes for Recess

Be sure that your children come to school with

jackets, mittens, scarves, and hats. As long as the temperatures are

above 32 degrees, the students will go outside for recess. Information

on school closings/delays due to weather related events can be found on

the AACPS website www.aacps.org.

School Policy “Personal Electronic Devices”

Please, let your child know that cellphones, iPads, handheld video games, and

other electronic devices need to be turned off and saved in the child’s backpack

while they are in school ground, which includes snack, lunch, passing periods,

during class and restroom breaks. The following progressive discipline conse-

quences will take place if a student fails to comply with this policy:

• First time the child is found using a personal electronic device – the student

will be given a first warning and will be asked to turn off the device and place it in

his/her backpack.

• Second occurrence - The device will be confiscated by the teacher and will

not be returned to the child until after school. The teacher will hold a conference

with parents.

• Third occurrence—The device will be confiscated and handed to the princi-

pal until the parent can pick it up.

Any further violation of this policy will result in confiscation and further disciplinary

action, including (but not limited to) suspension.

Please be advised that Tyler Heights Elementary School and the Anne Arundel

County Public Schools assume no liability or financial responsibility for theft, loss,

or damage, and expenses arising out of any liability or claim of liability for damage

to any personal electronic device.

Please, talk to your child about the importance of not using their personal electron-

ic devices during school hours. Thank you.

Tyler Heights Elementary School is

equipped with a video camera system. It

covers selected interior and exterior public portions of the

building and grounds. It is NOT monitored constantly, but

it is monitored during emergency situations. During certain

events, when the safety or security of students may be in

question, authorized personnel from local, state, or federal

police or fire emergency units may be given access to view

images projected on the camera system. If you have any

questions about the system, you should call the supervisor

of school security at 410-222-5083.

ParentCONNECTxp (PCxp) is an easy-to-use tool for communicating student progress that will allow you to

take an even more active role in your child’s education. Parents and guardians of grades 1-12 students can

log onto the secure ParentCONNECTxp website to access their child’s grades and attendance.

Receiving Access to ParentCONNECTxp

Any person who has legal rights to view his/her children's school records is eligible to receive a user ID and

password for ParentCONNECTxp.

Parents New to ParentCONNECTxp

Contact your child's school or send an email to parentconnectxp@aacps.org with the following information:

Child's first and last name, grade and most importantly your ParentCONNECTxp User ID. Enter your child's

school name in the email subject line.
