Prevalencia menor al 1%
Hombres con inicio temprano y predominio bipolar
Mujeres con inicio tardío y predominio depresivo
Incidencia de esquizoafectivo bipolar de 1.7 /100,000 habitantes

DIAGNÓSTICO
DSM-IV TR:A. Un periodo continuo de enfermedad
durante el que se presenta en algún momento un episodio depresivo mayor, maniaco o mixto, simultáneamente con síntomas que cumplen el criterio A para la esquizofrenia
B. Durante el mismo periodo de enfermedad ha habido ideas delirantes o alucinaciones durante al menos 2 semanas en ausencia de síntomas afectivos acusados
DIAGNOSTICO
C. Los síntomas que cumplen criterios para una alteración del estado de animo están presentes durante una parte sustancial del total de la duración de las fases activa y residual de la enfermedad
D. La alteración no es debida a los efectos fisiológicos directos de alguna sustancia o a enfermedad médica

En el DSM- IV se encuentra en el capitulo de esquizofrenia
En el CIE-10 esta en un capitulo aparte
El diagnóstico es mas especifico con los criterios del DSM-IV

La estabilidad Temporal del Dx. Es baja: Schwartz et al. despues de un
seguimiento de 2 años mostro baja estabilidad en el diagnóstico de esquizoafectivo 92% en esquizofrenia 83% en Bipolar 36% en esquizoafectivo
