Main characteristics and Geography• Spain is situated in the
south west of Europe, on the Iberian Peninsula, the Balearic Islands and the Canary Islands
• It is located near the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean
• Spain is a country with uplands and mountains. There are: the Cantabrian Mountains and the Pyrenees
About country• Capital: Madrid• Area: 504 750 sq km • Population: 39 470 000• Language: Spanish• Currency: Euro
Climatefauna and flora
• In Spain there is a subtropical climate at the seaside and a continental climate inland
• Spanish flora includes mainly Mediterranean plants – residually kept evergreen forests with cork oaks, olives, pinica. Typical for this area is also thicket of makia and on the uplands there is dry steppe grass.The fauna is limited by the population of Spain.
Education and history• Pre-school education is
from 3 to 5 years of age• Primary school is from 6
to 11years of age• Secondary school is from
12-15 years of age (or to 17, not compulsory)

• In 1492 Catholic kings won in Granada with Arabs
• In 1516 the kingdom of Spain began
• In 1936-1939 there was a war inside the country (Spanish Civil War)
• In 1986 Spain joined the European Community
Typical foodsport
• Typical food of Spain is Tortilla and Paella. Paella is rice with meat or with bread, tomatoes, garlic. You can eat it with bread or fruit and vegetables
• There are two popular football teams, that is FC Barcelona and Real Madrid. These teams are popular not just in Spain.
Important people• Pablo Picasso. He
was one of the most interesting and famous painters. He died in 1973, he was 91 years old.
• Antonio Banderas – He was born in 1960. He is a very popular actor. He played in films like:
• Mambo Kings• Matador
Monuments and Historical sites
• One of the most important historical sites in Spain is the castle in Alhambra. There is also a very interesting museum in Bibalo. This is a very modern building designed by Frank O. Gharry. The Holy Family’s church is a symbol of Barcelona. This building is still not finished. Antonio Gaudi started it in 1882.
