FIRST COMMUNION RETREAT

Dear Friends, Thank you one and all for your generous response to our – in pew- Annual Catholic Appeal. Please get your pledges in as soon as possible. Working together we can do great things! This month of May will be quite busy for us at St Barts! We are completing the interior renovation of the church. I still expect everything to be complete before the end of June. About 235 children will receive the Holy Eucharist for the first time at 3 masses: May 12 at 11 am ; May 19 at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. The children recently went on retreat to Our Lady of the Island Shine and are now fully prepared to receive their First Communion. Next Sunday we will offer all the masses for our Moms – living or deceased and our youth group will have a bake sale to raise funds for the next World Youth Day in Panama with Pope Francis. We are blessed to have 16 going this January to represent our parish. Our new Deacon, Jose Lizama, will be presenting himself at the masses next weekend and the following weekend. He will be working closely with me and with Deacon Daniel in focusing in on the special pastoral needs in our parish. He is excited to get started and so are we. Finally, our parish staff will be going away on retreat from Tuesday, May 29 to Thursday, May 31. This is our first time doing this. It will be an important opportunity for all of us to reflect on our ministry here in the parish and find renewal and refreshment.

Pope Francis has asked all Catholic to pray the rosary every day in May with the special intention for peace in Syria and throughout the world. Let’s respond generously to Pope Francis’ request. Mary, Queen of Peace – pray for us! Fr Rick

Queridos amigos,

Gracias a todos por su generosa respuesta a nuestra Campaña Anual Católica - en la banca-. Por favor, hagan sus promesas tan pronto como sea posible. ¡Trabajando juntos podemos hacer grandes cosas!

¡Este mes de mayo estará bastante ocupado para nosotros en St Barts! Estamos completando la renovación interior de la iglesia. Espero que todo esté completo antes de finales de junio. Alrededor de 235 niños recibirán la Sagrada Eucaristía por primera vez en 3 misas: 12 de mayo a las 11 a. m. 19 de mayo a las 11 a.m. y 2 p.m. Los niños recientemente se fueron de retiro a Our Lady of the Island Shine y ahora están completamente preparados para recibir su Primera Comunión.

El próximo domingo ofreceremos todas las misas para nuestras madres, vivas o fallecidas, y nuestro grupo de jóvenes tendrá una venta de pasteles para recaudar fondos para la próxima Jornada Mundial de la Juventud en Panamá con el Papa Francisco. Tenemos la bendición de tener 16 en este enero para representar a nuestra parroquia.

Nuestro nuevo Diácono, José Lizama, se presentará

en las misas el próximo fin de semana y el siguiente fin de semana. Él trabajará estrechamente conmigo y con el Diácono Daniel enfocándose en las necesidades pastorales especiales en nuestra parroquia. Él está emocionado de comenzar y nosotros también.

Finalmente, nuestro personal de la parroquia se

irá de retiro desde el martes 29 de mayo hasta el jueves 31 de mayo. Esta es la primera vez que hacemos esto. Será una oportunidad importante para todos nosotros para reflexionar sobre nuestro ministerio aquí en la parroquia y encontrar renovación y descanso.

El Papa Francisco ha pedido a todos los católicos

FEAST OF THE ASCENSION: We are told in Sacred Scripture and the Creed that “40 days after Jesus rose from the dead he ascended into heaven where he now sits at the right hand of the Father.” The feast of the Ascension will be celebrated on Thursday, May 10. Masses will be offered at 9 a.m. in English; 6:30 p.m. English and 7:30 pm Spanish. Masses will take place in the chapel. Exposition will be cancelled.

FIESTA DE LA ASCENSIÓN: En la Sagrada Escritura y el Credo se nos dice que "40 días después de que Jesús resucitó de los muertos, ascendió al cielo donde ahora está sentado a la diestra del Padre". La fiesta de la Ascensión se celebrará el Jueves, 10 de mayo. Las misas se ofrecerán a las 9 a.m. en inglés; 6:30 pm. Inglés y 7:30pm Español. Misas tendrán lugar en la capilla. MARY, MOTHER OF THE CHURCH Pope Francis has added the memorial of “Mary, Mother of the Church” to the General Roman Calendar. It will be celebrated annually on the Monday after Pentecost. This year, that falls on May 21. We will celebrate a special mass with music at 9 am in English and 7:30 pm in Spanish. MARÍA, MADRE DE LA IGLESIA El Papa Francisco ha agregado el memorial de "María, Madre de la Iglesia" al Calendario Romano General. Se celebrará anualmente el lunes después de Pentecostés. QUIERE SER CATEQUISTA?

Soon we will be completing this year’s Religious Education

Program where over 870 children participated! We are in great

need of more catechists – men and women 18 years and older

who are willing to give up some of their free time in teaching

and sharing the Catholic faith. Most of our classes take place on

Sundays – some are Tuesday evenings. Next year we will have

to open Saturday afternoons in order to make room for more

students. Classes are only 90 minutes long. All volunteers will

get background checked, be Virtus trained (protection of

children) and will have to take courses and workshops to assist

you in becoming a parish catechist. On Wednesday June 20 at

7:00 p.m. we will have an introductory meeting in the Faith

Formation Center (Whitney Avenue). In order to attend you

need to contact Sr. Lucy, with your name and contact

information at religiousedstbarts@gmail.com or 347-303-0380.

Pronto estaremos finalizando el Programa de Formación

en la Fe este año. ¡Más de 870 niños participaron! Estamos

necesitando más catequistas – hombres y mujeres de 18 años o

más, dispuestos a dar un poco de su tiempo para enseñar y

compartir la fe Católica. La mayoría de nuestras clases se

realizan los domingos – algunas los martes por la noche.

El próximo año tendremos que abrir clases los sábados en las

tardes porque necesitamos espacio para más estudiantes. Las

clases son de 90 minutos. Todos los catequistas tienen que ser

investigados, participar en el entrenamiento de Virtus (para la

seguridad de los niños) y estar dispuestos a participar en algunos

cursos y talleres para ayudarles en la labor como catequistas.

El Miércoles, 20 de Junio a las 7:00 p.m. tendremos una reunión

introductoria en el Centro de Formación de Fe (Avenida

Whitney). Para participar por favor comunicarse con la Hermana

ALTAR SERVER MEETING All Altar Servers are expected to attend an important meeting on Tuesday May 8th at 5:30 p.m. in the chapel (Ithaca Street). We will be distributing the new schedules and offering some formation training as well.

Our Lady of the Clouds Our annual mass in honor of Our Lady of the Clouds, “Patroness of Ecuador and Immigrants, will take place on Sunday, May 21st with a mass at 3 p.m. in the church followed by a r eception in the school gym. All are welcome to attend.

CROWNING OF MARY: Children from our Faith Formation Program will participate

in the traditional Crowning of Mary ceremony on Sunday, May 20th at the 10 am and

1130 am (Spanish) masses in the main church. We encourage you to bring flowers to

place before the statue of Mary on this day.

CORONACIÓN DE MARÍA: Los niños de nuestro Programa de Formación de Fe

participarán en la ceremonia tradicional de Coronación de María el domingo 20 de

mayo a las 10 a. m. Y 11:30 a. m. (Español) en la iglesia principal. Lo alentamos a que

PARISH STAFF RETREAT: This month our entire parish staff will take a few days away for a retreat.The parish office, faith formation office and youth office will be closed Tuesday, May 29 to Thursday, May 31. All activities are also cancelled. Fr Replogle will direct the retreat for us at the Seminary of the Immaculate Conception in Huntington NY. Please keep the parish staff in your prayers. RETIRO DEL PERSONAL DE LA PARROQUIA: Este mes, todo el personal de nuestra parroquia se tomará unos días para un retiro. La oficina de la parroquia, la oficina de formación de la fe y la oficina de la juventud estarán cerradas desde el martes 29 de mayo hasta el jueves 31 de mayo. MOTHER’S DAY DÍA DE LAS MADRES

Masses will be offered for all mothers living or

d e c e a s e d — o n t h e weekend of May 12/13.

Envelopes are available at the entrance of the churches. Fill them out and drop them in the collection basket during mass. The en-velopes will be placed on the church altars during the month of May.

Las Misas se ofrecerán para todas las madres, vivas o muertas, en el fin de semana del 12 y 13 de mayo. Los sobres están disponibles en la entrada de las iglesias.
