Convocatoria Convocada la trigésima sexta edición de los Premios

Princesa de Asturias por S.M. el Rey en octubre

de 2015 al finalizar la ceremonia de entrega de

estos galardones, la Fundación inició el proceso de

envío de la documentación para la presentación

de candidaturas. Más de 2.600 ejemplares del

Reglamento de los Premios, editado en cinco

idiomas, fueron distribuidos y se enviaron alrededor

de 1.000 invitaciones electrónicas para presentar

candidaturas. Por tercer año consecutivo, más de

ochenta personalidades de universidades, medios

de comunicación e instituciones de gran prestigio

internacional recibieron una carpeta especial con

material adicional sobre la institución y sus Premios.

Reuniones de los jurados Los jurados encargados de conceder los Premios

Princesa de Asturias 2016, integrados por 143

expertos celebraron sus reuniones en Oviedo durante

los meses de mayo, junio y septiembre de ese

año. Estuvieron integrados por especialistas en los

respectivos ámbitos de cada uno de los galardones,

a excepción del de la Concordia, constituido por

miembros de los patronatos de la Fundación.

Jury MeetingsThe Juries for the 2016 Prince of Asturias Awards,

comprising 143 members, held their meetings

in Oviedo during the months of June, July and

September this year. They were made up of experts

in each of the areas covered by the Awards, except

for the Jury for the Award for Concord, which was

composed of members of the Boards of Trustees of

the Foundation.

Call for NominationsThe 36th edition of the Princess of Asturias Awards

was convened by HM The King in October 2015 at

the end of the Awards Ceremony, following which

the Foundation began the process of sending the

documentation for the submission of nominations.

Over 2,600 copies of the Regulations governing the

Awards, edited in five languages, were sent out and

around 1,000 invitations to submit nominations

were emailed. For the third consecutive year, more

than eighty leading figures from universities, the

media and institutions of major international

renown received a special dossier with additional

material on the institution and its Awards.

Candidaturas234 candidaturas de 48 países se presentaron a

los jurados para su estudio, tras el análisis de la

documentación aportada. Se recibieron 5.400 cartas,

mensajes y firmas de apoyo. 38 candidaturas fueron

propuestas por 44 de nuestros galardonados. Un 70%

de las candidaturas presentadas proponen a hombres

y un 12% a mujeres. El 18% restante se refiere a

instituciones. Se han recibido propuestas y cartas de

apoyo de premios Nobel, de un amplio número de

galardonados; embajadores, tanto de España como

del extranjero, académicos, rectores, presidentes

y decanos de universidades, colegios oficiales y

fundaciones, entre otros.

CandidaturesIn all, 234 candidatures from 48 countries were passed

on to the Juries for their consideration after the

previously presented documentation had been analysed.

Some 5,400 letters, messages and letters of endorsement

were received. Out of the total number of nominations,

38 were put forward by 44 of our Laureates. By gender,

70% of the nominations were men and 12%, women.

The remaining 18% were institutions. Nominations and

letters of endorsement were received from Nobel Prize-

winners, a large number of our Laureates, ambassadors,

both Spanish and foreign, academics, rectors, presidents

and deans of universities, official colleges and

foundations, among others.

IMPACTOLas actividades organizadas por la Fundación,

especialmente la concesión y entrega de los Premios

“Toma la palabra”Por segundo año, la Fundación puso en marcha el

proyecto “Toma la palabra”, con el objetivo de trasladar

a las aulas la trayectoria de los premiados de la edición

en curso en las categorías de Investigación Científica y

Técnica, Ciencias Sociales y Cooperación Internacional.

• “La aventura de los clásicos”. Estudiantes de la ESO

y Bachillerato decodificaron un mensaje de Mary

Beard, utilizando una escítala espartana y redactaron

un relato sobre la antigüedad grecorromana. Se

recibieron 267 relatos, con la participación de

444 alumnos de 46 centros educativos.

• “SuperHERRoe, el hombre biónico”. La trayectoria

vital y el trabajo de Hugh Herr fueron los temas de

este taller para alumnos de Primaria. Se presentaron

1.113 dibujos de 27 centros. La exposición fue

visitada por 1.074 personas.

• “Artes plásticos”. Taller sobre sostenibilidad

medioambiental vinculado al Premio de Cooperación

Internacional. Alumnos de 16 centros educativos

elaboraron 152 obras con 5.472 bolsas y botellas de

plástico.

“Taking the Floor”For the second year running, the Foundation organized

the “Taking the Floor” project, aimed at bringing to

the classrooms the backgrounds of the Laureates of

the current edition of the Awards in the categories of

Technical and Scientific Research, Social Sciences and

International Cooperation.

• “The Adventure of the Classics.” Secondary and pre-

university pupils decoded a message from Mary Beard

using a Spartan scytale and wrote a story related to

Greco-Roman antiquity. Two hundred and sixty-seven

stories were received, with the participation of

444 pupils from 46 schools.

• “SuperHERRo, the Bionic Man.” The life and work

of Hugh Herr were the themes of this workshop for

primary pupils, with 1,113 drawings being presented

from 27 schools. The exhibition was visited by

1,074 people.

• “Visual Arts.” A workshop on environmental

sustainability linked to the Award for International

Cooperation. Pupils from 16 schools produced

152 works using 5,472 plastic bags and bottles.

Visitas a centros educativosLa Fundación retomó por segundo año consecutivo

entre los meses de enero y abril un plan de visitas a

los centros educativos del Principado de Asturias con

el objetivo de dar a conocer a los estudiantes la labor

de la institución y sus Premios. Las sesiones fueron

impartidas por el equipo de la Fundación a alumnos

de la ESO y Bachillerato. Se impartieron conferencias

en 33 centros (un 24,6% del total) para cerca de

5.000 estudiantes, que representan un 13,88% del

conjunto de alumnos de la región.

Visits to schoolsFor the second year running, the Foundation

visited schools throughout the Principality between

January and April with the aim of informing pupils

about the institution’s work and its Awards. The

informative sessions were imparted to secondary and

pre-university pupils by Foundation staff. Talks were

given in 33 schools (24.6% of the total) to around

5,000 pupils, representing 13.88% of the region’s

schoolchildren.

Proyectos editoriales La Fundación editó dos libros, ambos prologados

por S.M. el Rey. La obra Premios Príncipe de Asturias

1981-2014 recoge los discursos pronunciados por

S.M. el Rey en las 34 ceremonias de entrega de los

Premios entre 1981 y 2014. El libro contiene, además,

fragmentos de las intervenciones de los galardonados

en el Teatro Campoamor y cuenta con un índice de

materias, con más de cuatrocientas entradas, y otro

de nombres propios con novecientos términos. El

libro está disponible también en inglés con el título

Prince of Asturias Awards 1981-2014. Speeches.

Asimismo, con motivo de la celebración del 25

aniversario del Premio al Pueblo Ejemplar de Asturias,

se editó un libro que recoge las actas de los jurados,

fragmentos de los discursos pronunciados por el Rey,

un mapa con el recorrido realizado en cada visita y

una selección fotográfica.

Publishing projectsThe Foundation published two books, both with

prologues by HM The King. The volume entitled

Prince of Asturias Awards Ceremony 1981-2014 brings

together the speeches given by HM The King at

the 34 Awards Ceremonies held between 1981 and

2014. It also includes excerpts from the speeches

of Laureates at the Campoamor Theatre and has an

index of subjects with over 400 terms, and another

of names with around 900 items. The book is also

available in Spanish under the title Premios Príncipe

de Asturias 1981-2014. The second, published to

mark the 25th anniversary of the Exemplary Town of

Asturias Award, contains all the Minutes of the Juries,

excerpts from speeches given by The King, a map

with the itinerary followed during each visit and a

selection of photographs.


Medioambiente y sostenibilidadThe Environment and sustainability

La accesibilidad es una condición necesaria para la

participación social de las personas con limitaciones

funcionales y es garantía de un mejor diseño para

todos. Para contribuir al desarrollo de una sociedad

inclusiva, la Fundación ha acometido un año más

actuaciones orientadas a facilitar la accesibilidad,

tanto en las comunicaciones como en el desarrollo

de los eventos y en los edificios que los acogen. La

Fundación participó por tercer año consecutivo en el

programa “Incorpora” de la Obra Social “la Caixa”,

cuyo objetivo es la integración laboral de colectivos

en riesgo de exclusión social.

Accessibility is a necessary condition for people with

functional limitations to be able to participate in

society, as well as a guarantee of enhanced design for

everyone. To contribute to the development of an

inclusive society, yet another year the Foundation has

undertaken actions aimed at facilitating accessibility,

both in communication as well as in the holding

of events and the buildings that host them. For the

third consecutive year, the Foundation participated

in the la Caixa Bank Charity Fund’s Incorpora

programme, which seeks to integrate groups in

danger of social exclusion into the job market.

Diversidad e inclusiónDiversityand inclusion

Proyecto medioambiental En 2016 se distribuyeron sesenta castaños entre los

alumnos y docentes del CPEB Carlos Bousoño de

Boal, como parte del proyecto de sensibilización

medioambiental dirigido a la comunidad escolar a

través de la plantación de árboles en las localidades

galardonadas con el Premio al Pueblo Ejemplar de

Asturias.

Environmental projectIn 2016, sixty chestnut trees were distributed among

the pupils and teachers at the Carlos Bousoño

primary school in Boal as part of the project

aimed at raising environmental awareness among

schoolchildren through the planting of trees in

locations bestowed with the Exemplary Town of

Asturias Award.


Compensación de la Huella de CarbonoLa Fundación Princesa de Asturias renovó el

compromiso adquirido en 2011 para reducir su

impacto medioambiental, con el objetivo de

compensar la huella de carbono producida como

consecuencia de sus actividades. Esto ha supuesto que

los Premios Princesa de Asturias 2016 hayan contado

de nuevo con la etiqueta CeroCO2, que concede la

Fundación Ecología y Desarrollo (ECODES).

Offsetting our Carbon FootprintThe Princess of Asturias Foundation reaffirmed

the commitment it made in 2011 to reduce its

environmental impact with the aim of offsetting the

carbon footprint resulting from its activities. This

commitment has resulted in the 2016 Princess of

Asturias Awards having been awarded the Zero CO2

emissions Eco-label by the Ecology and Development

Foundation (ECODES).
