Dear Brothers and Sisters,

May the Prince of Peace bless you with His Mercy!

May Mary and Joseph guide you and pray over your family!

On behalf of Fr. Benavides, Fr. Amable, Sister Mary Elizabeth, and the entire staff of St. John Chrysostom Church, MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Jesus Christ came on earth to reveal an extraordinary message: the message of love, joy and happiness. Christ asks us to have love for one another, to be reconciled to one another,

to accept one another, and to be One as He and the Father are One.

Each of us has been entrusted with a special gift, with a sacred responsibility: to show others how the mystery of God is among us. To show others that God become man to touch us personally and

intimately, to see His face in others, and to be His sons and daughters.

If I have personally ever offended or harmed your soul, I pray that you forgive me and, most

importantly, pray for me. With gratitude for how you have graced this past year here, I am holding you in heart and prayer this Christmas season, asking God to bless you with courage and peace.

Enjoy this blessed holy-day. Share every moment with those you love dearly, especially the sick, the elderly, and those whom you haven’t seen for quite some time.

Jesucristo vino a la tierra para revelar un mensaje extraordinario: el mensaje de amor, alegría y felicidad. Cristo nos pide que nos amemos unos a otros, que nos reconciliemos unos

con otros, que nos aceptemos y que seamos Uno como Él y el Padre son Uno.

Cada uno de nosotros ha sido confiado con un don especial, con una responsabilidad sagrada:

mostrar a otros cómo el misterio de Dios está entre nosotros. Mostrar a otros que Dios se hace

hombre para tocarnos personal e íntimamente, para ver Su rostro en los demás y ser Sus hijos e hijas.

Si personalmente he ofendido o dañado su alma, oro para que me perdone y, lo más importante, ore por mí. Con gratitud por lo que has hecho este año pasado aquí, te sostengo en el corazón y la oración

en esta temporada navideña, pidiendo a Dios que te bendiga con fortaleza y paz. Disfrute de este bendito día santo. Comparte cada momento con los que mas amas, especialmente los enfermos, los ancianos y aquellos a quienes no has visto desde

hace bastante tiempo.

THE CHRISTMAS LESSONS

Lesson from the Infant Jesus

There is no shame in being poor.

It is interesting to note that while throughout His adult life Jesus always taught

us to give and to serve. He first came into this world as one who needed assistance.

It was no accident that He was born without a place to lay His head. In coming to

our world in this way, Jesus shows us there is no shame in being poor. A risk we take

when we practice stewardship is that we may begin to think of ourselves as better or luckier

than someone in need and might look down upon those who need our generosity. When we

look down upon the poor, we look down upon the infant Jesus Himself.

Lesson from the Shepherds

We all have gifts to give.

The shepherds came from the fields bringing only themselves and their sheep.

Yet their interest in Jesus was enough to win them a place in the Christmas story

for all times. What is their stewardship message to us? Even if all we have to give is our

interest, our caring, and our time to come and visit; those are important gifts to give.

Lesson from the Wise Men

Just worshipping Jesus isn’t enough.

The Wise Men present an entirely different message than the

shepherds. Like most of us, these were men with many blessings.

They are praised in the Christmas story not just for coming to worship

Jesus but also for bringing Him gifts. The lesson is that just going to church is

not enough. We also are expected to bring our gifts with us.

LAS LECCIONES DE NAVIDAD

Lección del Niño Jesús

No hay vergüenza en ser pobre.

Es interesante notar que a lo largo de Su vida adulta Jesús siempre nos

enseñó a dar y servir. Primero vino a este mundo como alguien

que necesitaba ayuda. No fue casualidad que naciera sin un lugar donde

poner su cabeza. Al venir a nuestro mundo de esta manera, Jesús nos muestra que

no hay vergüenza en ser pobre. Un riesgo que tomamos cuando practicamos la

mayordomía es que podemos empezar a pensar que somos mejores o con más

suerte que alguien en necesidad y podemos mirar hacia abajo sobre aquellos que

necesitan nuestra generosidad. Cuando miramos a los pobres, miramos hacia

abajo al niño Jesús mismo.

Lección de los pastores

Todos tenemos regalos para dar.

Los pastores vinieron de los campos trayendo solo a sí mismos y a sus ovejas. Sin embargo,

su interés en Jesús fue suficiente para ganar un lugar en la historia de Navidad para todos

los tiempos. ¿Cuál es su mensaje de mayordomía para nosotros? Incluso si todo lo que

tenemos que dar es nuestro interés, nuestro cuidado, y nuestro tiempo para venir y visitar;

Esos son regalos importantes para dar.

Lección de los Sabios

Sólo adorar a Jesús no es suficiente.

Los Reyes Magos presentan un mensaje completamente diferente al de los pastores.

Como la mayoría de nosotros, éstos eran hombres con muchas bendiciones.

Ellos son elogiados en la historia de Navidad no sólo por venir a adorar a Jesús

sino también por traerle regalos. La lección es que ir solamente a la iglesia no es

suficiente. También se espera que traigamos nuestros regalos con nosotros.

Our Annual Toy Drive for needy children in the area begins

Sunday, Dec. 11 thru Sunday Jan. 1, 2017. Please support our drive by placing wrapped toys and gifts inside the box

located next to the pulpit in both the upper and lower churches.

Recommended gifts include games, dolls, plush stuffed animals, books, puzzles,

educational toys, and sporting goods. (PLEASE no violent toys). We accept individual gifts, office collections, and cash donations.

Ages of children are from infants to age 18.
