St. Vincent de Paul members pro-vide food, financial assistance, and referral services to families who are living in a state of pov-erty. During this present time, we need food and financial assis-tance. We are accepting food do-nations on Wednesdays from 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm and monetary do-nations via the olasvdp.org/donate

webpage. For families in need, our food pantry is open on May 9th and 23rd. We also need volunteers! There is no greater joy than see-ing God’s love and compassion in the very eyes of the poor that we serve. A TRADITIONAL PRAYER FOR SPIRITUAL COMMUNION

My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the most Blessed Sacrament. I love You above all things and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot now receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there, and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.

THE SPIRITUAL COMMUNION

The best way to receive Christ is in Holy Communion at Mass. Although we cannot receive Him physically at this time, we can receive spiritually by praying the Spiritual Communion. St. Thomas Aquinas once defined a Spiritual Communion as “an ardent desire to receive Jesus in the Most Holy Sacrament [in Communion at Mass] and in lovingly embracing Him as if we had actually received Him.”

WEEKEND DISCERNMENT RETREAT FOR WOMEN Could Christ be calling you to the religious life? Take a step to find out. The annual diocesan discernment retreat for single women who feel called to a religious voca-tion is June 26-28 (provided COVID-19

restrictions are lifted). The Salesian Sisters of St. John Bosco will be leading the retreat this year, and the theme is Feminine, Faithful, & Fun: The Discerning Woman. This retreat aims to help you know yourself and discover the amazing woman God has created you to be. It will also include tools to aid your prayer and discernment, as well as opportunities for prayer, confession and spiritual direction. Cost is $60 (financial assistance is availa-ble).
