A TV movie based on historical facts. A melody in praise of art and free-dom.In the mid-1940’s, Pau Casals was con-sidered one of the most highly regarded musicians of the time. He was living in exile in Prada de Conflent (France), near the border of his homeland, Catalonia.

The master musician struggled to make ends meet by offering cello classes, while refusing to perform in public as long as Franco remai-ned in power.

In spite of that, numerous musicians and friends were finally able to convince him to change his position on the subject. They proposed holding a gathering of top musicians from around the world to perform a concert in Prada de Conflent in honor of Bach. The end result was a powerful event that resonated around the world.

It represented a challenge to the Franco regi-me that made Pau Casals a standard-bearer for the cause of freedom.

Thomas goes on holiday to the Catalan coast with his father. There he runs into Djamile, a young woman from the Congo who has managed to slip into the country and is flee-ing the authorities, fearing they will force her repatriation.

1932. Thanks to poetic licence, the leading names in one of Catalonia’s most important moments in the 20th century recount, in first person, what took place at the time, as a camera adds footage to reproduce the events that unfolded in Barcelona from April 14-17, 1931, three critical days for the Catalan Republic.

In sum, the aim was to reflect both the grandeur and precarious nature of Compa-nys’ spur of the moment gesture, to which Macià resoundly responded from an entirely different position, leading to a shouting match between two of the great voices in contem-porary Catalan history.

1932. Gracias a una licencia poética, Francesc Macià y LLuís Companys, dos de los protagonistas de uno de los episodios más relevantes de la Catalunya del S.XX, comentan en primera persona, qué ocurrió en Barcelona, los días 14 y 17 de abril de 1931, los tres días de vigencia de la Repúbli-ca Catalana. Todo ello mientras una cámara ayuda con imágenes a revivir tales hechos.

Una película que explica la grandeza y la precariedad de un gesto medio improvisado por parte de Companys, corregido en clave soberanista por Macià y que derivó en una pelea a gritos entre los dos grandes mitos de la historia contemporanea catalana.

1940: Lluís Companys, President of the Catalan Government, was imprisoned and awaiting sentencing, accused by the author-ities under the Franco dictatorship, of crimes against the State.

The film focuses on the thirteen last days of Companys’ life, before he faced a firing squad; on his lawyer’s desperate attempts to save his life; and on the military regime’s fears that he would become a martyr and symbol for European democracies.

Laia

The chief accountant of a textile mill colony dies in a fire as devastating as it is inexplica-ble. Hanan es una niña marroquí de doce años que vive desde pequeña en España con sus padres, Hamid y Fatiha, y su hermano pequeño, Nur.

Hamid, cansado de que lo traten con recelo y desconfianza por su origen marroquí, decide volver a Marruecos. Hanan no quiere que se marche solo y decide irse con él, pero Fatiha y Nur permanecerán en España.

Fatiha echa de menos a Hanan y desea que regrese con ella y su hermano, pero ello re-quiere de un proceso legal que puede tardar años. Fatiha decide ir a Marruecos a buscar a su hija, pero Hamid y su familia harán lo que esté en su mano para evitarlo.

Manelic es un hombre sencillo y primitivo que es llamado a casarse con Marta, una chica de las tierras bajas que hasta el momento se ha visto obligada a mantener relaciones íntimas con su amo, Sebastián, que pretende continuar su relación con Marta, más allá de su matrimonio de conveniencia.

El enfrentamiento de la joven contra la au-toridad del amo, en un mundo regido por las relaciones de poder, desencadena un drama que acaba con la muerte de Sebastián en manos de Manelic.

Tornarem (We Shall Return)

One woman. Two men. A story of unsung heroism during World War II.

At the end of the Spanish Civil War, a group of men and women, fleeing from Franco’s advancing troops, make it across the French border. Among them is Lola, whose husband Felip had to return to Barcelona to try and free their daughter, kidnapped by the Falangists.

During Lola’s odyssey in France, she is confined in the refugee camp of Argelers, she befriends a group of refugees who will eventually fight alongside General Leclerc and she falls passionately in love with manel, a political dissident.

Years later, the two lovers run into Felip in Paris, while the three are fighting in the Resistance.

This writer was a very private person; she herself was a secret, or perhaps even a generator of secrets. But oddly enough, that afternoon she opened up and shared many of those.

Nonetheless, fate can sometimes be fickle. Just his new life is on the verge of unfolding, a young Rumanian woman happens to cross paths with Daniel and her shapely legs and natural charm are enough to convince him to drive her from Valencia to Barcelona, where she claims to be headed.

Before the trip gets underway, however, something happens which completely turns Daniel’s life, and that of his family, upside down.

Daniel es un hombre al que la vida parece irle bien. Es feliz con su familia, tiene un éxito razonable como editor en una profesión que le gusta y lleva una vida cómoda. Sin embargo, el azar a veces puede trasto-carlo todo. Y en el camino de Daniel se cruza Ilena, una joven rumana. Sus bonitas piernas y su simpatía natural hacen que Daniel se ofrezca a llevarla en coche desde Valencia a Barcelona, destino al que dice querer ir.

Pero antes de emprender el viaje, ocurrirá un suceso que trastocará por completo la vida de Daniel y la de su familia.

Una prestigiosa periodista se enfrenta al reto más importante de su carrera: el Presidente del Gobierno está presuntamente implicado en un “affaire” aberrante y ella tiene que entrevistarle para descubrir la verdad.

El astuto Secretario de Prensa del Presidente no se lo pondrá fácil. Minutos antes de la en-trevista, la protagonista se verá sometida a un maquiavélico juego de equívocos y engaños que la harán dudar de sus principios éticos y profesionales.

Angelo is having dinner with Lidia, his some-time lover. The two are waiting for Bianca-a friend with whom they had some conflicts in the past- to join them.

El so de la mort(The Sound of Death)

Renzo is a great pianist who has practically lost his eyesight due to an advanced case of diabetes. His daughter, Claudia, is a troubled adolescent who has been kicked out of all the youth detention centers she’s been sent to and now lives with her father.

She repeatedly runs away from home, but on one of those occasions she happens to witness their neighbor Angelo, murdering Bianca.When Angelo realizes that Claudia knows the whole story, the plot thickens.

Ángelo está cenando con Lidia, con la que mantiene una relación. Los dos están espe-rando la llegada de Bianca, una amiga con la cual tuvieron un conflicto en el pasado.

Lo que Lidia no sabe es que Bianca ha visitado a Ángelo esta misma mañana para hacerle un chantaje: quiere recuperar a Lidia, ya que las dos tuvieron un romance en el pasado.

Ángelo, enfurecido, mata a Bianca y por eso sabe que Bianca no aparecerá a cenar esta noche. De hecho, Bianca es la cena que están comiendo.

Renzo es un gran pianista que se está que-dando prácticamente ciego a causa de una avanzada forma de diabetes. Su hija Claudia es una adolescente conflictiva, expulsada de todos los reformatorios y que ahora vive con él.

Claudia siempre se fuga de casa y en una de sus escapadas presencia el asesinato de Bianca en manos de Ángelo, su vecino. Ángelo descubrirá que Claudia lo sabe todo y a partir de aquí todo se precipitará.
