SISTEMA DE MANUFACTURA FLEXIBLE
DEFINICIÓN
Es una célula de maquinado de grupos tecnológicos altamente automatizado, que consiste de un grupo de estaciones de procesamiento (usualmente CNC), interconectados por un sistema de almacenamiento y manejo de material automatizado y contralada por un sistema de computadora integrado [Groover, Mikell, 2002].
Es un sistema de manufactura reprogramable capaz de producir una variedad de productos automáticamente [Niebel, Benjamin, 1989].

Es un sistema de computadora, en el cual los periféricos en lugar de ser impresoras, plotters, terminales y discos de memoria son robots, maquinas, herramientas y otros equipos de procesamiento. Es una empresa localizada en Dallas, Texas de la industrial aeroespacial. La necesidad surgió ya que se requería fabricar dos elementos, los cuales requerían 2000 partes maquinadas y dentro de estas 600 podían ser fabricadas en FMS [7].
