WEEKLY REFLECTION FROM

FATHER JOSE

If we ask ourselves what it is that most fills us with fear, what

would that be? Many people are afraid of death. Somehow,

also, as believers, death causes us fear and uncertainty be-

cause we do not know the day or the hour when we will cease

to exist in this world. Little by little we are getting closer to Ho-

ly Week and Holy Week is precisely about the death of Christ

but also about His resurrection. Let us think about what Jesus

tells us about death. In the Gospel this Sunday Jesus tells us:

“The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. Amen,

amen, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground

and dies, it remains just a grain of wheat; but if it dies, it pro-

duces much fruit.” What does the glorification of Christ mean?

That means His triumph over sin and death through His resur-

rection. Jesus shares with us His triumph. Through our bap-

tism we died to sin and were buried to live a new life. Through

our baptism we passed from death caused by sin to living a

new life of grace and holiness. Let us think about the mystery

that the words of Christ contain in the quotation I made in this

reflection. Jesus tells us that we are seed, and if the seed is

sown and dies, it will produce fruit. If we believe that by dying

everything ends and there is nothing after death, it is like

throwing the words of Christ on deaf ears. There is life after

death and Christ calls that life eternal life. If there were no

eternal life, there would be no point of living. We are in this

world for three reasons: To live, to die and to live with Christ

eternally. I would like to exhort you in this reflection to look

up to heaven. That this act increase in you the feeling and the

desire to one day achieve eternal life. As humans we fear

death but the promise of Christ makes us strong at the mo-

ment we have to face it. Let us think that if we want to

achieve eternal life, we have to experience death. We are

seed, and that seed has to die in order to produce fruit in eter-

nal life.

I will place my law within them and write it upon their hearts; I will be their God, and they shall be my people.— Jeremiah 31:33

REFLEXION SEMANAL DEL

PADRE JOSE

Si no

hubiera vida eterna no tendría sentido vivir.
