EXT. QUEENS HOME BACKYARD BBQ BASKETBALL COURT

Lorena (12) and Javier (13) are playing basket ball havingfun at a family BBQ in Corona, Queens. The Adults aregrilling and dancing Merengue.

Lorena and Javier play with heavy flirtation going on. But

an airball chuck by Javier causes the ball to go over thefence.

JAVIEROh shit that’s the crazy viejo’shouse! Now what.

LORENA We go get the ball.

JAVIERNo way, That guy is crazy. I’m

gonna tell my mom.

LORENA Why are you scared.

JAVIERI ain’t scared.

LORENA So Let’s go! I’ll race you!

They run around the block racing. and finally reach theominous house. They walk past a whole bunch of signs that

read keep out, guard dog.

The ring, Javier is trying to act tough like he’s notscared. Old man opens the door

INT. FRANK’S HOME

Frank’s home is adorned in old Italian American fashion. Lotof porcelain old furnisher from 1960’s and old black and white photos. Kids are standing in the living room lookingaround. Lorena spots a black and white photo.

LORENA This your wife?

LORENA She’s pretty

Frank brings out two glasses of water. The kids gulp it downslowly. Frank watches them.

FRANKI’ll go get the ball.

Javier spots a rifle.

JAVIERCool look at that.

LORENA Don’t touch nothing!

Frank enters bouncing the ball. Sees them looking at therifle.

FRANKThat’s from the war. 1942. Myfather’s gun He used to killGermans.

JAVIER

My mom uses Lysol to kill theGermans.

FRANKWell here’s your ball.

EXT. MONTAGE CORONA

ice cream king of Corona, at the park. Bouncing and catchingthe ball.

Last they are playing bacci ball at spaghetti park on Corona Ave.

Javier lunges the ball really hard it goes off the bankbumper and hits Lorenas ankle. She collapses crying.

EXT. WALKING BACK HOME LORENA LEANS ON FRANK. EVENING

They walk into the family barbeque. Lorena is limping withsupport from Frank and Javier. Lorena’s mother runs out.

GLADYSMija! que te paso!

LORENA I got hit with a ball.

GLADYSQuien es este senor?
