CLEVELAND, OHIO – The man who has been charged with kidnapping three women in his house and raping them for ten years plans to plead not guilty to the charges, according to his attorney.

The attorney Jaye Schlachet said in a telephone interview that the suspect, Ariel Castro, 52, is under suicide watch at the Cuyahoga County jail in Ohio.

Castro was charged last week and faces four counts of kidnapping and three counts of rape. His bond was set at $8 million.

The four kidnapping charges are for keeping captive three women: Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight, as well as the daughter he fathered with Knight, a six-year-old girl.

An Ohio prosecutor said last week that he is going to try to press charges that carry the death penalty. These charges could stem from the forced abortions of one of his victims. The initial police report indicates that in at least five occasions Ariel Castro starved and hit Knight in the abdomen to force her to abort the children she was carrying.

The case was solved when one of the women, Berry, was able to escape the home on May 6 and, with the help of a neighbor, called authorities.

Apparently two of the women were kept in harsh conditions in the home, tied with chains and duct tape during long periods of time.

Another defense lawyer, Craig Weintraub,

said in an interview that his client was not a monster, as he has been portrayed by other people. “The initial portrayal by the media has been one of a 'monster' and that's not the impression that I got when I talked to him for three hours," Weintraub said. "I know that family members who have been interviewed by the media have expressed that as well."

Meanwhile Castro’s brothers, Onil, 50, and Pedro, 54, who were originally accused of being active participants in the kidnapping and rape of the victims and were later on freed for lack of evidence, gave an interview about their brother.

Onil said in the interview that his brother was a “monster. I hope he rots in jail… I want him to suffer.”

Pedro, meanwhile, said that “He is a goner.” Pedro was particularly affected by the fact that Ariel had helped DeJesus’ family in the search for the young woman, knowing perfectly well he had her captive.

Both Onil and Pedro said they found out details about the kidnappings from police detectives when they were interrogated and that they didn’t know anything about the whole situation, because they never saw anything strange, but also their brother was a weird man.

Ariel told them he had the windows of his house covered to save energy and he always had the radio and TV on. Sometimes Ariel would cook for his brothers, but they had to eat on the steps of the home. Both Onil and Pedro said in the last 10 years they never went

past the kitchen of their brother’s house.Once freed the women gave authorities

similar accounts of the way they were kidnapped. All three said they were taken against their will when they accepted a ride from Ariel Castro.

The women disappeared on separate incidents between 2002 and 2004, when they were 14, 16 and 20 years old.

After being rescued DeJesus and Berry were released to their relatives, while Knight remained several days in the hospital for treatment of an undisclosed condition. When Knight was finally released, she sought refuge with other relatives and not at his mother’s home. Both women had been estranged at the time of Knight’s disappearance.

Berry’s mother died several years ago, not knowing her daughter was still alive.

About the motive behind the kidnappings, FBI agents discovered a note handwritten by Ariel Castro in 2004, in which he allegedly confessed the kidnappings of the three women. He also stated that he had been abused and raped by an uncle when he was a child.

A CBS News correspondent said Castro allegedly identified himself as a “sexual predator” and in the note gave details of each one of his victims. He blamed the women for the kidnappings.

Meanwhile, relatives of Ariel Castro’s ex wife, who died last year after a long illness, described him as an abusive man who abused his wife and locked his family inside the home.

This description is the opposite of that provide

by some neighbors and relatives, who said the school bus driver was kind and respectful.

“Of course we have taken it hard," Ariel’s uncle, Julio Castro, said. "We only knew one Ariel, my sweet nephew. He was a sweet, happy person, a musician. We didn't have the slightest idea of the second person in him."

Juan Perez, who lived two blocks down from Ariel’s house, said he was always happy and respectful.

“He earned the children’s trust and that of their parents. You can only do it if you are a good person.”

There were some missed opportunities to rescue the women.

A few years ago Castro was stopped by police for riding a motorcycle without a helmet, but he was let go with a warning.

Then, some investigators went to his house after he was accused of leaving a child in his school bus. The investigators were at the house, but nobody opened the door and they left.

Some neighbors reported seeing a naked woman in the home’s backyard and called police but nobody came. Police sources said they don’t have any records of such a call ever being received.

In Hispanic media it was widely reported that a young Hispanic man helped Berry get out of the house and call 911 from a neighbor’s house, but because he didn’t speak much English, a black man took credit for the rescue and became a hero. Until now authorities have not said anything about this matter.

Onil dijo en la entrevista que su hermano era un “monstro. Espero que se pudra en esa cárcel… quiero que sufra”.

Por su parte Pedro dijo que “Él está en las últimas”. Él se mostró particularmente afectado por el hecho de que Ariel había ayudado a la familia de Gina DeJesús a buscarla, sabiendo perfectamente que la joven estaba cautiva.

Tanto Onil como Pedro dijeron que ellos se enteraron de los detalles de los secuestros por los detectives cuando fueron interrogados y no sabían nada de todo esto, ya que nunca vieron nada sospechoso, ya que su hermano

siempre había sido un hombre raro.Ariel les decía que mantenía las ventanas

cubiertas para ahorrar energía, y tenía siempre la radio y la televisión prendidas. En algunas ocasiones cocinaba para sus hermanos, pero siempre tenían que comer en los escalones afuera de la casa. Tanto Onil como Pedro dijeron que en los últimos 10 años ellos nunca pasaron más allá de la cocina de la casa de su hermano.

Una vez liberadas, las tres mujeres han dado historias similares de la forma en que fueron secuestradas, luego de aceptar un aventón en el automóvil de este hombre.

Las mujeres desaparecieron por separado entre los años 2002 y 2004, cuando tenían 14, 16 y20 años de edad.

Luego de ser rescatadas, DeJesús y Berry fueron entregadas a sus familias, mientras que Knight permaneció varios días en el hospital para recibir tratamiento por un problema no revelado. Al salir Knight buscó refugio con otros familiares y no al lado de su madre, con quien había tenido problemas justo antes de ser secuestrada.

Mientras tanto, la madre de Berry falleció mientras su hija se encontraba en cautiverio.

Con respecto al motivo detrás de esos secuestros, agentes del FBI descubrieron una carta escrita en 2004 por Ariel Casto, en la que supuestamente confesaba el secuestro de las tres mujeres y en la que decía que de niño fue abusado y violado por un tío.

Una corresponsal de CBS noticias dijo que Castro aparentemente se describía como un “depredador sexual” y en la nota daba detalles sobre cada una de sus víctimas. Él culpó a las mujeres por sus propios secuestros.

Por su parte, la familia de la ex esposa de Ariel Castro, quien murió el año pasado luego de una larga enfermedad, lo describen como un hombre abusivo, que abusaba de su esposa y encerraba a su familia dentro de su propia casa.

Esta descripción contrasta con la

proporcionada por algunos vecinos y familiares de Ariel Castro, quienes dijeron que el conductor de autobuses escolares era amable y respetuoso.

“Por supuesto que ha sido una sorpresa”, dijo Julio Castro, tío de Ariel. “Solo conocemos un Ariel, my dulce sobrino. Él era una persona dulce, feliz, un músico. No teníamos ni la más remota idea de la segunda persona que había en él”.

Mientras tanto Juan Pérez, quien vive a dos cuadras de la casa de Ariel, dijo que él siempre estaba feliz y era respetuoso. “Se ganó la confianza de los niños y de los padres. Usted solamente puede hacerlo si es una buena persona”.

Con respecto a que su hubo oportunidad de que estas tres mujeres pudieran haber sido rescatadas anteriormente, parece que hubieron algunas oportunidades.

Hace algunos años Ariel Castro fue detenido por la policía al manejar una motocicleta y no llevar casco, pero solo le dieron una advertencia.

También más recientemente unos investigadores fueron a su hogar para investigar el reporte de que había dejado a un niño olvidado en el autobús escolar que tripulaba, sin embargo, como nadie les abrió la puerta, se fueron.

Algunos vecinos reportaron haber visto a una mujer desnuda en el patio de la casa y que habían llamado a la policía, sin que les hicieran caso. Sin embargo, las autoridades dijeron no tener información sobre este incidente.

En los medios hispanos se dio difusión a la posibilidad de que las mujeres recibieron ayuda para escapar de un vecino hispano que casi no hablaba inglés, en vez del señor de raza negra que apareció en todos los noticieros y que fue considerado como el héroe del caso. Hasta el momento las autoridades no se han pronunciado al respecto.

Entré a los Estados Unidos hace más de 21 años y no he salido de los Estados Unidos desde entonces. Entré sin inspección (no tenía papeles) y tuve un

hijo que es ciudadano estadounidense. Ahora mi hijo ciudadano tiene más de 21 años de edad. ¿Puede él/ella ayudarme a obtener my residencia permanente (tarjeta de residencia)?

Un ciudadano estadounidense mayor de 21 años de edad que tiene un padre, puede pedir

a ese padre para que obtenga sus papeles. Pero para que ese padre pueda obtener sus documentos, debe de ser elegible.

Viendo que usted entró a los Estados Unidos sin inspección, mientras que su hijo puede pedirlo para que usted sea elegible para obtener papeles, usted no puede ajustar su estatus migratorio a residente permanente en los Estados Unidos porque entró sin inspección.

Por lo tanto usted: 1) tiene que irse de los estados Unidos y estar fuera del país por 10 años; o 2) algunas personas pueden ajustar su estatus en los Estados Unidos si tienen una vieja petición que fue sometida a nombre de ellos antes del 30 de abril de 2001.

Si usted tuvo un hermano o una hermana que lo pidieron antes del 30 de abril de 2001 y su hijo ahora tiene 21 años, usted puede obtener sus papeles mientras está en los Estados Unidos. De otra manera, usted tendría que irse de los Estados Unidos y esperar por 10 años.

Si usted entró legalmente a los Estados Unidos hace más de 21 años y usted tiene prueba de que entró legalmente, como una tarjeta de cruce fronterizo o una visa de visitante, usted puede quedarse en los Estados Unidos y ajustar su estatus para obtener sus papeles.

Si la legislación es aprobada pudiera, y recalco la palabra pudiera, ayudarle en el futuro, pero bajo las leyes actuales usted no tiene otra opción más que salir y quedarse fuera de los Estados Unidos por 10 años.

Can my child help me obtain documents?

Dear Mr. Richmond,I entered the United States more than

21 years ago and have not left the United States since that time. I entered without inspection (did not have papers) and had a U.S. citizen child. Today my U.S. citizen child is over the age of 21. Can he/she help me obtain my permanent residency (green card)?

A U.S. citizen that is over the age of 21 that has a parent can petition for that parent to obtain their documents. But in order for that parent to obtain their documents, they must be eligible.

Seeing how you entered the United States without inspection, your child, while they can petition for you to be eligible for your papers,

you cannot adjust your status to permanent residency in the United States because you entered without inspection.

Therefore, you would either 1) have to leave the United States and be gone for 10 years, or, 2)some people can adjust their status while in the United States if they had an old petition filed on their behalf before April 30, 2001.

If you had a brother or sister who petitioned for you before April 30, 2001, and your child is now 21, you can obtain your papers while in the United States. Otherwise, you will be required to leave the United States and wait 10 years.

If you entered legally to the United States over 21 years ago, and you have proof you legally entered, such as a border crossing pass or a visitor visa, you can stay in the United States also and adjust to get your papers.

Recently there has been a lot of talk about a provisional waiver. In your situation you cannot do the provisional waiver. A provisional waiver is only available for people who are married to U.S. citizens or people who have parents who are U.S. citizens, not people who have children who are U.S. citizens and petition for them.

Therefore, under the current law you would be required to travel back to Ciudad Juarez for your appointment and then they would tell you you cannot come back to the United States for 10 years.

There has been some proposed legislation in Washington, DC, which would dramatically change the program. If the legislation passes it may, and I emphasize may, help you in the future, but under the current law you have no options other than leaving and being out of the

United States for 10 years.

19 heridos en Nueva Orleans por tiroteo el Día de las Madres

NUEVA ORLEANS – La policía de Nueva Orleans informó que 19 personas habían resultado heridas en un tiroteo registrado el Día de las Madres durante un desfile en esta ciudad.

El superintendente de la Policía de Nueva Orleans, Ronal Serpas, identificó al pistolero como Akein Scott, de 19 años de edad. Él fue identificado plenamente por más de un testigo.

“Estaremos buscando a Akein Scott… hasta que lo encontremos, y yo le recomiendo a Akein que se entregue”, dijo Serpas.

Scott tiene antecedentes criminales, que incluyen cargos de resistirse a ser arrestado y posesión de un arma de fuego.

Imágenes de una cámara de vigilancia ubicada en North Villere Street en el vecindario del

7º distrito muestran a un hombre que la policía considera como sospechoso, que parece disparar contra un grupo de personas reunidas para un desfile por un día festivo. Un hombre adulto puede verse corriendo con los brazos en alto, enviando a los asistentes al desfile en todas direcciones.

19 injured in Mother’s Day shooting in New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS – New Orleans Police informed that 19 people had been injured in a shooting during a parade on Mother’s Day.

The New Orleans Police Superintendent Ronal Serpas identified the shooter as Akein Scott, 19. He was identified by more than one eyewitness.

“We will be looking for Akein Scott… until we find him, and I would strongly recommend that Akein turn himself in,” Serpas said.

Scott has a criminal background, including charges for resisting arrest and possession of a firearm.

Surveillance images from a camera located on North Villere Street in the 7th Ward show a man considered a suspect by police, who seems to shoot at a group of people gathered for the holiday parade. An adult man can be seen charging with raised hands, sending parade-goers scrambling in all directions.

At least three people were seen running from the scene at 1:45 p.m.

Police said 10 male adults, seven female adults, a 10-year-

old boy and a 10-year old girl had been shot.

The victims were marching in what is known as a second line parade, a city tradition inspired by jazz funerals: a brass band plays and marches through the streets, while a “second line” of people follows the band celebrating and dancing.

Officials said the parade was two blocks long and included about 400 people, but only half of them were near where the shots were fired.

“These are unusual circumstances. We have second lines which occur in the city of New Orleans every weekend at this time of the year,” Serpas said.

“We had a full complement of police officers. It appears that these two or three people just for a reason unknown to us, started shooting at, towards or in the crowd. It was over in just a couple of minutes.”

These celebrations have been targets of violence in recent years. In the past shooters were targeting a specific person in the crowd, and that could have been the case here.

Fbi investiga muerte de hispano a manos de policías en California

B A K E R S F I E L D , CALIFORNIA – la oficina del alguacil del Condado de Kern ha dicho que han solicitado la ayuda del FBI para investigar la muerte de David Sal Silva, quien fuera golpeado por las autoridades. El incidente fue captado en videos por algunos testigos.

El alguacil Donny Youngblood dijo que él personalmente había solicitado la ayuda para investigar la muerte de Silva, de 33 años.

De acuerdo a Youngblood, hay dos teléfonos celulares con videos de Sal Silva cuando es golpeado por

los oficiales. Esos celulares fueron decomisados por las autoridades para ayudar en la investigación, dijo Youngblood.

El alguacil dijo ́ que para evitar un conflicto de interés, había solicitado al Departamento de Policía de Bakersfield que analizara los videos, que serán hechos públicos en el futuro.

FBI investigates death of Hispanic man at the hands of police

BAKERSFIELD, CALIFORNIA – The Kern County Sheriff’s office has said that they have requested help from the FBI to investigate the death of David Sal Silva, who was beaten by authorities. The whole incident was captured on videos by witnesses.

Sheriff Donny Youngblood said he had personally requested the help from the FBI to investigate the death of Silva, 33.

According to Youngblood, two cell phones have videos of Sal Silva being beaten by police officers. Those cell phones were seized by authorities to help in the investigation, said Youngblood.

He said that to avoid a conflict of interest, he has requested the Bakersfield Police Department to analyze the videos, which will be made public at a later date.

Silva, 33, father of four children, was brutally beaten by the agents. Hour later detectives forced two witnesses who recorded the incident on their cell

phones and took the cell phones away, according to local media. The phones belonged to Silva’s girlfriend, Melissa Quair, and her mother.

The seizure of the cell phones is a matter of concern for David Cohn, who represents the Silva Family.

Cohn, who said he had not seen the videos, said he plans to present a civil rights lawsuit in federal court in Fresno.

Silva died May 8, shortly after the beating. Officers said Silva resisted them because he was drunk. A total of eight officers were at the scene.

A witness said he had seen at least two agents on top of Silva while he was crying out in pain asking for help, while others were beating him.

The Los Angeles Times said there is a 911 call in which a woman describes what happened: “The man is on the ground, and there are eight agents who ran to beat him with sticks. The man is dead and I have everything recorded on my cell phone. Those police officers don’t have a reason to do this to that man.”

10 people charged in prostitution sting in Aurora

AURORA – Seis mujeres y cuatro hombres enfrentan cargos luego de que fueran detenidos por las autoridades de Aurora durante un operativo anti prostitución realizado en Aurora la semana pasada.

El operativo, realizado el 8 y 9 de mayo en una residencia particular en la ciudad, se enfocó en varios sitios de internet conocidos por sus anuncios de servicios sexuales.

Tres de los hombres fueron arrestados el 8 de mayo y acusados de solicitar un acto sexual, luego de que contestaron un anuncio colocado

por la Policía de Aurora en uno de los sitios de internet. Ellos ofrecieron a una mujer policía encubierta dinero a cambio de sexo.

Los hombres acusados son Edward Przybycien, de 30 años y residente de la cuadra 800 de Quin Court en Naperville; Thaddeus Chase, de 45 años y residente de la cuadra 200 de Loradale Drive en Oswego; y Anthony Chirico, de 42 y residente de la primera cuadra de Windham Drive en Montgomery.

En este operativo las autoridades incautaron seis automóviles. Para recuperarlos los arrestados deben pagar 500 dólares más los gastos de remolque y almacenaje. Además, se incautaron 943 dólares en efectivo.

Three of the men were arrested May 8 and charged with solicitation of a sexual act, after they answered an ad placed by Aurora Police

in one of the internet sites. They offered a female undercover police officer money in exchange for a sex act.

ELGIN – A group of approximately 30 parents, teachers, administrators and representatives from northern Illinois organizations attended a public hearing held May 9, to talk about the proposal by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) to eliminate class size restrictions for special education students.

About three quarters of the people who made comments were against the proposals.

The first proposal would allow school districts to increase the number of special education students

in a general education classroom. Currently classrooms cannot have more than 30 percent of students with special needs.

The second part of the proposal would allow school districts to set their own maximum limits for the number of students in a special education classroom. Currently the maximum limit is 13 students.

Ann Horton, the Chicago supervisor of special education for ISBE, said this change was suggested because state requirements exceed those of the federal American with Disabilities Act.

The elimination of these limits would insure that each student with

a disability is going to be placed in the least-restrictive environment, Horton said. This would allow school districts to “focus on meeting students’ needs instead of meeting a ratio.”

However, parents do not agree with these changes.

“I understand in principle the districts want to do what is best for students but in reality, it’s going to come down to budget issues,” said Many Hanson of Gilberts, who has two children registered at School District 300, one of them with special education needs.

There is no timetable to make a final decision on this matter.

ELGIN – Un hombre de 32 años de edad fue sentenciado a cinco años en prisión, luego de que se declarara culpable de cargos relacionados con la cocaína.

Jayson P. Sturdivant, de la cuadra 1100 de Morton Avenue en Elgin, estaba en libertad condicional por un cargo de felonía por drogas sucedido en 2010, cuando fue arrestado el verano pasado luego de que las autoridades catearan su casa.

Sturdivant estaba programado a empezar su juicio el 13 de mayo, pero acordó declararse culpable a cambio de que la fiscalía retirara los cargos más graves en su contra, que podrían haberlo dejado 30 años en la cárcel.

Sturdivant fue arrestado el 19 de julio de 2012, luego de que la Fuerza Especial Antinarcóticos del Norte Centro, parte de la Policía Estatal de Illinois, realizara una búsqueda en su casa y encontrara 19 gramos de cocaína, 2.5 libras de marihuana, 2 mil 300 dólares en efectivo y básculas. ELGIN – A 32-year-old man was sentenced to five years in prison, after he pleaded guilty to cocaine charges.

Jayson P. Sturdivant, of the 1100 block of Morton Avenue in Elgin, was on probation for a felony drug charge that happened in 2010 when he was arrested last summer after authorities searched his home.

Sturdivant was scheduled to start his trial on May 13, but he agreed to plead guilty in exchange for prosecutors dropping the most serious charges that could have landed him in prison for 30 years.

Sturdivant was arrested July 19, 2012, after the North Central Narcotics Task Force, a unit of the Illinois State Police, searched his home and found 19 grams of cocaine, 2.5 grams of marijuana, $2,300 and scales. He was charged with possession of cocaine with

intent to deliver within 1,000 of a school.This felony carried a possible sentence

between six and 30 years in prison, without the possibility of probation.

As part of the agreement, Kane County prosecutors dropped that charge. Sturdivant also has to pay a fine of $1,995.

Sturdivant could see his sentence reduced in half for good behavior, according to Illinois law, and received credit for 296 days he spent in jail while his case was pending.

Sturdivant was originally arrested on July 15, 2010 by Elgin Police and was charged with a felony marijuana charge. In this case he faced a sentence of seven years in prison for possession with intent to deliver between 30 and 500 grams of marijuana within 1,000 ft. of Larkin High School in Elgin.

He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 30 months probation. He also spent 18days in jail.

ELGIN – Elgin Fire Department officials believe that a defective roofing job caused the ceiling of an apartment complex to cave in, leaving two people injured and 21 temporarily displaced.

The collapse at Blackhawk Apartments was reported at 12:16 a.m. May 11, when a woman said the ceiling in her apartment had collapsed on top of her while she and a child were sleeping on their living room sofa.

Authorities said the ceiling had collapsed in a third-floor apartment of a three-story building located at 925 Carriage Way.

“When the first firefighters arrived, they knew something serious had happened because pink insulation had been pushed out from underneath the apartment’s front door,” Elgin Fire Department Battalion Chief Bryan McMahan said. “To get to the family, they had to force their way in because drywall that had

fallen off the ceiling had lodged against the inside of the door.”

The woman and the child sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Meanwhile, when firefighters checked the inside of the other seven apartments located on the third floor, they noticed that nail heads had popped out and drywall was sagging in several of the units, causing concern that their ceilings could also cave in. This is why the residents of the eight apartments on the third floor were given orders to temporarily evacuate the building.

At the time of the collapse the building was undergoing a total roof replacement and, according to McMahan, this is what probably caused the collapse.

He said the apartment complex management company immediately contacted a contractor to begin repairs.Officials put the damage at $7,500.

According to authorities, firefighters went to the site of Advanced Engineering Corp, located at 440 S. McLean Blvd., at 9:56 p.m. that day.

Firefighters determined that the protective

cover of a section of pipe had caught fire and extinguished the flames without further damage.

Police said that after several interviews Clough admitted he was angry at the company, that he had used his key to enter the building and that he had used a cigarette lighter to ignite the wrapper.

The cost to dry the damaged piped was $19,000, while the cost to sandblast it was $27,000.

Rockford man arrested for opening fire in neighborhood

ROCKFORD – Rockford Police arrested a man who opened fire outside his home.

Darius Dawson, 21, was arrested the night of May 12 for allegedly firing his weapon in the 1400 block of Ashland Avenue. Dawson said he was returning fire to someone who had shot up his house. Nobody was hurt.

Police seized two weapons and Dawson was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.

Man sentenced in double murderROCKFORD – A Janesville man was sentenced to life in prison for a double murder.

Alexander Castillo, 29, was sentenced for the murder of Michael and Christina Clark. Authorities said Castillo forced his way into the Clark’s home on 21st Street in Rockford in 2010.

Castillo then shot Michael Clark in the head, and shot Christina several times. The couple’s two sons were at home at the time of the murders but they were not hurt.

ROCKFORD – Several area residents and local banks have notified Rockford Police of a telephone scam.

Several residents have received text messages on their cell phones, letting them know their credit card has been compromised, and then giving instructions to call a phone number, allegedly from their bank or credit card company.

When people call that number, an automated system instructs them to input their credit card number, to protect it from unauthorized charges. However, once someone inputs that information, they have given the suspects all the information they need to have access to their account and can be used for fraudulent activities.

You can check the validity of any calls or texts by contacting your bank or credit card company using published phone numbers.

CONDADO DE BOONE – Una mujer de 22 años de Milwaukee fue sentenciada cinco años en prisión por su participación en un choque en 2011 donde hubo víctimas mortales.

Amber Mazoch fue sentenciada el 13 de marzo por dejar la escena de un accidente con muertos y por manejo agravado bajo la influencia de drogas.

De acuerdo a la fiscalía del Condado de Boone, Mazoch viajaba en dirección oeste por Business 20 cerca de Poplar Grove Road en Belvidere alrededor de las 2:30 p.m. el 11 de

septiembre de 2011 cuando cruzó al carril que viaja en dirección contraria para rebasar a un tráiler, esto en una zona de no rebasar.

El automóvil de Mazoch golpeó a una motocicleta, tripulada por Anthony Kush de Genoa, quien murió a consecuencia de las heridas sostenidas en el choque. Después de chocar con Kush, Mazoch continuó manejando en dirección norte por Poplar Grove Road. Ella fue detenida por un agente del alguacil, quien escuchó reportes de residentes sobre el choque en las llamadas al sistema de emergencia.

BOONE COUNTY – A 22-year-old woman from Milwaukee has been sentenced to five years in prison for her role in a fatal hit-and-run crash in 2011.

Amber Mazoch was sentenced March 12 for leaving the scene of an accident involving death and aggravated DUI of drugs.

According to the Boon County State’s Attorney’s Office, Mazoch was traveling westbound on Business 20 near Poplar Grove Road in Belvidere at about 2:30 p.m. Sept.

11 2011, when she crossed to the eastbound lane to pass a semi, in a no-passing zone.

Mazoch’s vehicle hit a motorcycle driven by Anthony Kush of Genoa, who died of his injuries.

After hitting Kush, Mazoch continued driving north on Poplar Grover Road. She was detained by a sheriff’s deputy who heard resident reports of the accident on 911 calls.

Blood and urine tests showed Mazoch had cocaine, marijuana and oxycodone in her system.

BELVIDERE – A 19-year-old Belvidere teenager was arrested for his participation

in the murder of Richard Herman on April 21.

Marco Hernandez was taken into custody by the U.S. Marshal’s Apprehension Unit and the Belvidere Police on May 14. A McHenry County Sheriff’s K-9 Unit also helped in the arrest.

According to authorities, Hernandez is a known gang member and Herman’s murder is considered gang-related.

Hernandez was arrested at a home located in the 600 block of West Madison Street in Belvidere. Officers surrounded the home and police said Hernandez tried to crawl out of a back window before being arrested.

Another well-known gang member, Deontae Murray, 21, was arrested May 10 in Rockford, for his participation in Herman’s murder.

NEW YORK – Myrka Dellanos and Maria Celeste Arraras, two well-known Spanish TV personalities, reunited after a 10-year estrangement during a party organized by a popular magazine.

The reunion took place May 13, during the red carpet of the presentation of “The 50 Most Beautiful People” organized by People en Espanol.

The women, who were anchors of the TV magazine

“First Impact” for many years, apparently mended the rift that existed between them.

“Yes, it was a nice encounter. We hadn’t seen each other in a long time, but I also saw other friends,” Dellanos said of their reunion.

Both women worked together for 10 years in “First Impact,” becoming good friends in the process. Their friendship continued, even when Maria Celeste signed a contract with Telemundo network to host “Red Hot”, the TV news magazine she

still hosts.Their estrangement started

when Maria Celeste made an indiscrete question to singer Luis Miguel during an interview. At that time Luis Miguel was dating Myrka and apparently some information shared in a friendly conversation was used by Arraras in her interview.

Later on, when Dellanos was involved in a difficult and very public domestic violence relationship, Maria Celeste interviewed the attacker, who at that time was married to Dellanos, something very

painful for the presenter.Since then both had not

been seen together in any events, but now everything seems to be behind them.

Las que en su tiempo fueran presentadoras de la revista televisiva “Primer Impacto” se reunieron en el evento y al parecer limaron asperezas luego de un distanciamiento.

“Sí, fue un lindo encuentro. Hacía mucho que no nos veíamos, pero también me encontré con otros amigos”, dijo Myrka Dellanos.

Ambas presentadoras trabajaron juntas por 10 años en

el programa Primer Impacto, haciéndose grandes amigas durante ese tiempo. La amistad perduró aún cuando María Celeste firmó contrato con Telemundo para hacer “Al Rojo Vivo”, programa que conduce hasta el día de hoy.

Sin embargo, el distanciamiento comenzó cuando María Celeste hizo una pregunta indiscreta al cantante Luis Miguel, quien en ese tiempo era pareja de Myrka. Aparentemente información compartida entre amigas fue utilizada por María Celeste durante la entrevista.

Posteriormente, cuando Myrka pasó por una difícil y muy pública situación de violencia doméstica, María Celeste entrevistó al agresor, quien en ese tiempo estaba casado con la presentadora, situación que causó mucho dolor a Myrka.

Desde entonces ambas no habían vuelto a aparecer juntas en ningún evento, hasta ahora, donde parece que los tiempos difíciles quedaron atrás.
