The Epiphany of the Lord Is 60:1-6; Ps 72; Eph 3:2-3a, 5-6; Mt 2:1-12
Today we are celebrating the great feast of the Epiphany, the mystery of the Lord's Manifestation to all the peoples, represented by the Magi who came from the East to worship the King of the Jews (cf. Mt 2: 1-2). St Matthew, who recounts the event, stresses that they arrived in Jerusalem following a star that they had seen rising and interpreted as a sign of the birth of the King proclaimed by the Prophets, in other words the Messiah. However, having arrived in Jerusalem, the Magi needed the priests and scribes to direct them in order to know exactly where to go, namely, Bethlehem, the city of David (cf. Mt 2: 5-6; Mic 5: 1). On their journey, the star and the Sacred Scriptures were the two lights that guided the Magi, who appear to us as models of authentic seekers of the truth.
The culmination of their quest was the moment when they found themselves before "the Child with Mary his Mother" (Mt 2: 11). The Gospel says that they "fell down and worshipped him". […]and, with their symbolic gifts, they showed that they recognized Jesus as the King and Son of God. Precisely in that gesture were fulfilled the messianic oracles that proclaimed the homage of nations to the God of Israel.
They had discovered a new Face of God, a new kingship: that of love. May the Virgin Mary, model of true wisdom, help us to be authentic seekers of God's truth, ever capable of living the profound harmony that exists between reason and faith, science and revelation.

For more than fifty years, the Archdiocese of Miami has been building and sustaining the Catholic community in South Florida. That has been made possible because of people like you. Since its inception, the ABCD has always been a conduit to carrying out God’s Will. The good works that ABCD makes possible are a testimony to our faith, a faith that is very much alive and is a part of each and every one of us.
Through ABCD, we are asked to join together to be One in Faith, One in Hope, One in Charity, and it reminds us that we are called upon by God to be good stewards of the gifts He has given us by placing those gifts at His service. La Epifanía del Señor Is 60:1-6; Sal 72; Efe 3:2-3a, 5-6; Mt 2:1-12
Celebramos hoy la gran fiesta de la Epifanía, el misterio de la manifestación del Señor a todas las gentes, representadas por los Magos, venidos de Oriente para adorar al Rey de los judíos (cf. Mt 2, 1-2). San Mateo, que narra el acontecimiento, subraya que llegaron a Jerusalén siguiendo una estrella, avistada al surgir e interpretada como signo del nacimiento del Rey anunciado por los profetas, es decir, del Mesías. Sin embargo, al llegar a Jerusalén, los Magos necesitaron las indicaciones de los sacerdotes y de los escribas para conocer exactamente el lugar a donde debían dirigirse, es decir, Belén, la ciudad de David (cf. Mt 2, 5-6; Mi 5, 1). La estrella y las Sagradas Escrituras fueron las dos luces que guiaron el camino de los Magos, los cuales se nos presentan como modelos de los auténticos buscadores de la verdad.
El culmen de su itinerario de búsqueda fue cuando se encontraron ante “el niño con María su madre” (Mt 2, 11). Dice el Evangelio que “postrándose lo adoraron”. […] y con sus dones simbólicos demuestran que reconocen en Jesús al Rey y al Hijo de Dios. Precisamente en ese gesto se cumplen los oráculos mesiánicos que anuncian el homenaje de las naciones al Dios de Israel.
Habían descubierto un nuevo rostro de Dios, una nueva realeza: la del amor. Que la Virgen María, modelo de verdadera sabiduría, nos ayude a ser auténticos buscadores de la verdad de Dios, capaces de vivir siempre la profunda sintonía que hay entre razón y fe, entre ciencia y revelación.

En los próximos días, muchos de ustedes recibirán una carta del Arzobispo Thomas G. Wenski sobre la Campaña de Caridades y Desarrollo del Arzobispo del 2013 (ABCD). Se ruega que lean con cuidado y consideren en oración su apoyo a este recurso importante que costea muchos de nuestros programas y ministerios en la Arquidiócesis. Durante más de cincuenta años, la Arquidiócesis de Miami ha estado edificando y sosteniendo a la comunidad católica en el sur de la Florida. Esto ha sido posible gracias a personas como ustedes. Desde su creación, el ABCD siempre ha sido un conducto para llevar a cabo la voluntad de Dios. Las buenas obras que el ABCD hace posible, son un testimonio de nuestra Fe, una Fe que está muy viva y que es parte de todos y cada uno de nosotros. Por medio del ABCD, se nos pide que actuemos Unidos en la Fe, Unidos en la Esperanza, Unidos en la Caridad, y se nos recuerda que estamos llamados por Dios a ser buenos administradores de los dones que Él nos ha dado, poniendo esos dones a Su servicio. Por favor, consideren en oración la invitación del Arzobispo Wenski. Gracias por su ayuda al ABCD.

New Life New Year is a CATHOLIC YOUTH RETREAT FOR TEENS, ages 15 to 18.
This Retreat is planned to have a personal Encounter with God.
The Encounter begins on Saturday Jan/19/2013 at 8:00AM until 6:00 PM and Sunday Jan/20/2013 the retreat will continue at 8:00AM finishing with a closing mass at Good Shepherd Catholic Church at 5:30PM, and concluding testimonies at 7:00PM all family and friends are invited.
