    AABEA Inauguration 2013 3

Dear fellow members and guests: On behalf of AABEA Tristate Inc., I am delighted to

welcome you all on this evening’s program to celebrate Bengali New Year and to install the Executive Committee for the term 2013-14.

I would like to thank the outgoing President, Moham-

mad Ekram Ullah and the EC for their amazing job in de-livering various programs during their period. I want to

congratulate newly elected President-Elect, Mohammed Jamshed Ali Khan. I also seek your best wishes so that the

newly elected EC is successful in carrying out the aims and objectives of the Association.

On behalf of AABEA, I want to thank Dr. Mohammad A. Karim for accept-

ing our invitation and showing up here to encourage us in this evening. He is acknowledged as a well-known educator and researcher. We are extremely proud of his contribution towards development of Science, Engineering, and Education.

    As a non-profit, non-political, non-religious Professional organization,

AABEA strives to organize various educational, scientific, cultural, and charita-ble programs. Since licensed and well-informed Engineers and Architects enjoy

more career options, AABEA makes strenuous efforts towards members’ suc-cess by conducting FE/PE licensing exam review classes and exam prep classes for the private and government sector jobs, and arranging technical seminars and workshops. The Association also provides scholarships to needy and merito-

rious Engineering and Architectural students of Bangladesh and offer monetary aid to Bangladeshis in need during natural calamities using our limited re-sources.

I also hope that you will enjoy the lively cultural program arranged by the Association. The endeavor and cooperation of all EC members, board of trustee, well wishers, and volunteers were essential to arrange and manage today’s event. I sincerely thank all of you for your assistance and involvement. As always, your

continued interest, support and collaboration will remain the key factors for the success of your Association in implementing all the upcoming events and activi-ties.

May the Bengali New Year convey happiness and prosperity for all of us!

    With best regards,

    Muhammad Siddiqur Rahman

    M. Ekram Ullah, M. Rejaul Hoque and Kazi Mostaque Ahmed

On behalf of AABEA 2011-2012 Executive Committee, we wish to extend a deep grati-

tude to all the members. This report will highlight our activities and accomplishments in 2011-2012.

    1. Inauguration: On April 16, 2011, AABEA hosted an inauguration ceremony for the 2011-2012 Execu-

tive Committee at Taj Mahal Restaurant, Jamaica, Queens. The event was attended and en-joyed by a large number of AABEA members, friends and families. There was a surplus of

approximately $1,050.00 from this event. 2. Picnics:

AABEA arranged its annual picnics on July 09, 2011 at Bethpage State Park, Farming-

dale, NY, and on June 30, 2012 at Belmont Lake State Park, Babylon, NY. Many AABEA members, friends and families enjoyed the picnics.

    3. FE (EIT) Classes: Two sessions of FE (EIT) preparatory classes were conducted within 2011-2012. One

was held in Spring of 2011 at Eastern Realty, Woodside and Fatema Restaurant, Jamaica. The other session was held in Fall of 2012 at 87-92 Parsons Blvd, 2nd Floor, Jamaica. Many

newly immigrant Bangladeshi engineers benefited from these classes. 4. Scholarships:

AABEA sent out letters to six Bangladeshi Universities, including BUET, DUET, KUET, RUET, CUET and BAU, in September 2011, and received scholarship applications

until early 2012. As of May 25, 2012, AABEA received $2,275 scholarship donations and awarded 12 scholarships at $175 each totaling $2,100.

Following the fundraising and scholarship awards on May 25, 2012 for year 2011,

AABEA was busy arranging its annual picnic for June 30, 2012. After the picnic, a question was raised whether to pursue the donors again within such a short time for 2012 scholarship

donations. The matter was deferred for next EC (Executive Committee) meeting and deci-sion. The next Extended Committee meeting was held on 9/7/12. During the meeting, the

key topics were 2012 picnic, a proposed environmental survey, and forming the required election commission to conduct election for 2013-2014 EC. The meeting ended late at apx.

9:15 P.M. Unfortunately, the scholarship matter was not discussed at that meeting. Follow-ing that meeting were the election process, sudden appearance of Hurricane Sandy, and no

EC meeting to this day. As a result, we were unable to award 2012 scholarships. 5. Annual General Meeting (AGM) 2011:

2011 AGM was held on December 25, 2011 at Fatema Restaurant, Jamaica, NY. Due to

the impact of Hurricane Sandy in our lives, time constrains, and per consultation with EC members, there was no AGM in 2012.

    6. Technical Seminar: AABEA arranged a technical seminar on October 01, 2011 at NYU-Poly. The theme of

the seminar was Technology and Development in USA and Bangladesh. The keynote speaker was Tauhidul Anwar Khan, former executive member of Bangladesh Joint Rivers

    Commission.

    7. Job Related Assistance: In 2011, AABEA assisted candidates for NYC Assistant Engineer exam. In 2012,

AABEA conducted preparatory classes for the Housing Inspector, Project Manager and Construction Project Manager civil service exams. With our limited resource and contacts, we also assisted members and a few out of state Bangladeshi engineers with information re-

lated to job openings and other supports. 8. Election for 2013-2014:

The 2011-2012 Executive Committee successfully appointed an election commission and the commission successfully completed its assignment for the Executive Committee of 2013-

2014. The election results were published. 9. Financial Status:

As of January 01, 2011, AABEA fund balance was $5,205.56. On 12/15/2012, the fund balance was $8,186.24. The financial statement for the 2011-2012 period is presented below.

In conclusion, we want to thank all of you, especially our EC and BOT (Board of Trus-

tee) members for your support in achieving the above. We also want to congratulate our newly elected EC members for 2013-2014. We are looking forward to working with the new

EC and sincerely request your continued support.
