= lthough listed under the 14 main meridians7 the governor vessel and conception

vessel are by custom also included among the = e*tra meridians. If the = e*tra

meridians7 only these two have their own defined points.

3.+ The 4H e@tra points

%n its review of the 4= e*tra points7 the (cientific 2roup used the following criteriaJ

1. The point should be in common use.

8. %t should be considered clinically effective.

5. %t should have a clear anatomical location.

4. %t should be at least ?.9 cun> from a classical acupuncture point.

9. %f it has the same name as an e*isting point7 a prefi* should be added to it.

> The unit of measurement used for locating acupuncture points. cun is the distance

between the interphalangeal creases of the patientKs middle finger.

The proposed alphanumeric code consists of a general prefi* FELG7 denoting Fe*tra

pointG7 followed by an alphabetic code indicating the region C+M for head and nec,7

for chest and abdomen7 ) for bac,7 "E for upper e*tremity7 and !E for lower

e*tremityD. Points are numbered from the higher to the lower level for the head7 nec,

and trun, regionsN from the pro*imal to the distal for the upper and lower e*tremitiesN

and7 if at the same level7 from the medial to the lateral.
