Tropar of the Resurrection – Tone 7: You destroyed death by Your Cross. You opened paradise to the thief, You changed the Myrrh-Bearers weep-ing and commanded the Apostles to preach that You are risen, О Christ God, granting the world great mercy.

Tropar of the Circumcision – Tone 1: You, Who sit upon a fiery throne in the highest, together with the heavenly Father and Your Divine Spirit, condescended to be born on earth of a Virgin Maiden, Your Mother, O Jesus. And the Child grew and became strong, filled with wis-dom; and the favour of God was upon Him. Now His parents went to Jerusa-lem every year at the feast of the Passo-ver. And when He was twelve years old, they went up according to custom; and when the feast was ended, as they were returning, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem. His parents did not know it, but supposing Him to be in the com-pany they went a day's journey, and they sought Him among their kinsfolk and acquaintances; and when they did not find Him, they returned to Jerusa-lem, seeking Him. Голос того, хто кличе: У пустині го-туйте дорогу для Господа, рівняйте стежки Йому! Виступив був так Іван, що в пустині христив та проповідував хрищення на покаяння для прощен-ня гріхів. І до нього приходила вся країна Юдейська та всі єрусалимля-ни, і в річці Йордані від нього христи-лись вони, і визнавали гріхи свої. А Іван зодягався в одежу з верблюжого волосу, і мав пояс ремінний на стег-нах своїх, а їв сарану та мед польовий. І він проповідував, кажучи: Услід за мною йде он Потужніший від мене, що Йому я негідний, нагнувшись, ро-зв'язати ремінця від узуття Його. Я христив вас водою, а Той вас христи-тиме Духом Святим.

As it is written in Isaiah the prophet: Be-hold, I send my messenger before Your face, who shall prepare Your way; the voice of one crying in the wilderness: Prepare the way of the Lord, make His paths straight! John the Baptizer ap-peared in the wilderness, preaching a baptism of repentance for the for-giveness of sins. And there went out to him all the country of Judea, and all the people of Jerusalem; and they were bap-tized by him in the river Jordan, confess-ing their sins. Now John was clothed with camel's hair, and had a leather gir-dle around his waist, and ate locusts and wild honey. And he preached, saying: After me comes He Who is mightier than I, the thong of Whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and untie. I have baptized you with water; but He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.

CHRISTMAS CAROLLING: St. Vladimir’s Congregation will once again be organiz-ing an opportunity for parishioners to have ‘carollers’ come to their homes during the Nativity. If you are interested in welcoming carollers to your home between January 7 and January 17, or are interested in joining a carolling group yourself, please con-tact Tim Michayluk by phoning 403-282-0398 or emailing him @ michayluk@shaw.ca. This tradition in our faith continues to be an important way to celebrate the birth of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, as well as to strengthen and build upon our community fellowship as Orthodox Christians.

A NOTE REGARDING COMMUNION – The Holy Orthodox Church under-stands Communion to mean that we have all things in common, sharing an identical Faith, and only those who are members of the Orthodox Church and who have prepared themselves through prayer, fasting and recent con-fession may participate in Holy Communion. Following reception of Holy Communion, we should stay in the church until the conclusion of the Litur-gy. Our fellowship begins after we venerate the Cross and receive the Blessed Bread (Antidoron - of which all may partake). If you have ques-tions concerning the above, or if you would like to become a member of the Orthodox Church, please feel free to speak with Fr. Taras or Fr. Timothy.
