(Comentario a Ef 4). Ecclesiastical 3,19: Become small and you will attain God's favor. Every human pre-sumption, modesty of life and thought, "poverty of spirit" (Mt 5:3), or self-denial (Mt 16:14), are paths that lead to salvation and demonstrate the Lord's loving power over his elect. Humility consists of the awareness of the position we hold in front of God and in front of others, in the wise moderation of our desires for glory. It has nothing to do with humility, with shyness or mediocrity. Humility is seeing and manifesting all that is good in us, in the natural and in the supernatural, as belonging to God, as a gift of God. There-fore, we must thank Him. Saint Gregory the Great writes, "Say, therefore, to the humble, at the time they are lowered, increase your likeness to God; and tell the proud to come down as they become imitators of the angels" (Pastoral Rule 3,18).
Your friend and servant ~ Father Jesús Camacho
St. John Chrysostom: Humility should not be so much in words as in the mind; we must be convinced within ourselves that we are nothing and that we are worth nothing. (Comment to Ef 4).
